S3 Scottish Parliament Visit

60 of our S3 Modern Studies pupils recently took part in a trip to the Scottish Parliament as part of their Democracy topic where they were met by their Local MSP Elaine Smith.

The pupils enjoyed a tour of the parliament and had the opportunity to attend First Ministers Questions.

The trip represents the outstanding links between the school and our local MSP.

Excellent day had by all.

GeoBus (A Geography organisation based in St Andrew’s University) recently ran a photo competition where various pupils of St Andrew’s High School were victorious.

The competition was open to all schools thoughout Scotland who were encouraged to send in various Geography themed photos which could range from what you get up to in Geography at school to taking a trip down the beach, to a selfie with a landmark or a walk around a loch.

12 winning schools were announced this afternoon and photos will now be issued in the GeoBus Academic calendar.

The winners from St. Andrew’s High Social Subjects department were:
• Lucy Frew (S6),
• Kerry McGlone (S3),
• Rocco Rossetti (S3),
• Shay McCann (S1)
• Callum Moore (S1).

Well done to all the other entries from St Andrew’s High school. These pictures were simply amazing and the GeoBus department have commended our pupils on the high numbers of pictures entered and the quality of these images.

Other winning schools included Queen Ann High school in Fife, Hazelhead Academy and Bridge of Don Academy in Aberdeen, Gairloch High School in the Highlands, Tarbert Academy in Argyll and Bute and Bridge of Don to name a few. This is a fantastic achievement for the pupils in Social Subjects so watch out for the photos of the winners to follow.

The top twelve winning pictures will make up the GeoBus academic calendar 2016-2017. Those top twelve will get a free calendar as well as other prizes. You can follow the link below to check out the winning pictures. Congratulations again to Lucy, Kerry, Rocco, Shay and Callum and please check out our twitter page to see the winning photo.
