P6/7 Class Trip

P6/7 enjoyed their trip to Burns Cottage and Robert Burns Birthplace Museum this week. They have been celebrating the Bard of Ayrshire by learning ‘The Selkirk Grace’ and ‘To a Haggis’.  A particular favourite was haggis tasting and learning about all the delicilous ingredients.

P7 Inverlochy Scottish Outing

Yesterday, P7 Inverlochy headed out for the day – on an extended school trip! The class have been studying several aspects of modern Scottish life, as well as Scottish history. To celebrate the end of their studies, Miss Duncan organised a day out to visit the National Museum of Scotland, following by an afternoon receiving a guided tour of the Scottish Parliament.

The class split into small groups to explore the museum before enjoying a bite to eat and a tour of the gift shop. The afternoon was spent learning more about how the Scottish Parliament is run, while getting to enjoy some ‘behind the scenes’ access, denied to the general public – including a tour of the debating chamber! Check out the gallery to see how our day went! Museum photographs were taken by our talented children.

It really was an excellent day out, and our children were an absolute credit to our school in terms of their behaviour and the way they impressed their tour guides with their incredible knowledge of the Scottish Parliament!

P1S Scottish Coffee Morning

We had a lovely start to the day today here at Rochsolloch Primary School as the children of P1S invited their families in to enjoy a Scottish themed coffee morning!

The children sang some lovely Scottish songs, danced and recited poetry for their adoring public, before joining their families for tea, coffee, juice and biscuits. We also learned about what makes our girls and boys proud to be Scottish.

The morning was rounded off with some prize bingo, with two lucky winners taking a delicious prize home this afternoon!

Thank you so much to all of the families who turned out to make this a memorable experience for the children, and for the lovely feedback which will be shared with the class.

Finally, a huge well done to Miss Clerkson, Mrs Fraser, Mrs Morisson, and all of our little Scottish stars in P1S!

Scottish Assembly

As you will know, our pupils have recently been learning Scots poetry in class and at home as part of our annual Scottish Verse Speaking Competition. Today, we held our Scottish Assembly, where our pupils who had finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their class were presented with certificates in front of the whole school and invited guests.

Our competition winners performed their poems on stage to a jam-packed gym hall, and they were absolutely superb. Following the wonderful poetry recital, we were treated to a highland sword dance by two of our pupils, which was spectacular!

Congratulations to all of our winner, and to every pupil who competed in our Verse Speaking Competition – the standard of the performances was higher than ever!

Many thanks as well to all of our families who supported their children at home, taking the time to practice and get all of those tricky words just right!
