End of Term Celebrations 2018

Yesterday afternoon we had a triple celebration!

We celebrated the hard work our pupils have done all term, the retirement of Mrs McLean, and our P7 pupils moving on to Airdrie Academy, Braidhurst, and Hamilton!  We’d like to wish everyone all the best for what’s to come! Enjoy the next chapter!

These photographs capture just a fraction of the energy and the emotion from an amazing assembly!

We’d also like to congratulate Mrs Polatajko, who will be leaving us next year to take up a new role as Principal Teacher at New Monkland Primary – they are very lucky to have her!

School Sports 2018

This morning we had our annual School Sports Day, bathed in glorious sunshine! Mr Griffin and Primary 7 have been working hard over the last few weeks to get everything ready for our young athletes. Our children were split into house teams and they rotated around eight different events:

* relay

* hocket dribble

* rugby run and throw

* netball shoot

* boccia bowls

* basketball

* tennis

* obstacle course

We finished off the event with a fun parents’ race…and our parents weren’t competitive at all!

Our children had a great morning, and were suitably exhausted when they returned to their classes!

Thank you so much to Mr Griffin and P7 for doing such a wonderful job, and to our guests who turned out in such great numbers to support the children. Thank you also for the wonderful feedback given to our staff and pupils after the event!

Have you followed us yet?

Did you know that we’ve recently joined Twitter?

We’re finding that using Twitter is helping us give much more regular updates on what’s going on here at Rochsolloch Primary School.

Larger stories will still appear here on our school website, but if you want to keep as up to date as possible, download the Twitter app on your smartphone and follow us @Rochsolloch_Pr for all the latest!

Or, you can log on to the website and take a look at our Twitter feed bar in the bottom left hand corner!

Osiligi Maasai Warriors

Last year, Miss Rangeley and P5/6 studied Africa. The pupils wanted to know more about African tribal culture so Miss Rangeley and Mrs McCulloch organised a surprise visit for this session…

All of the pupils from the school and nursery were treated to an absolutely amazing performance of singing and dancing this afternoon, courteset of the Osiligi Maasai Warriors, who had travelled all the way from Kenya!

The children learned about the Massai way of life, and about the meanings of the different, amazing songs they performed.

Check out our Twitter feed for a short video clip of the men from the tribe showing us how they used to hunt lions!

This truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our children. What an afternoon!

Aim high! Give it your best try!

Rochsolloch Primary School and Nursery Class has a new motto!

We asked parents, pupils and staff to put forward ideas for an inspirational motto for our school. The best suggestions were shortlisted, and our pupils decided on our motto at assembly this week:

‘Aim high! Give it your best try!’

We think our pupils made a great choice – we are always encouraging our children to reach for the stars and give everything they have to achieve their goals!

Welcome Back Update

We would like to welcome all of our returning pupils to school for the new session, with a special welcome to our new Primary 1 and Nursery Class children!

We like to keep our website up to date with what’s going on here at Rochsolloch Primary, and we are looking forward to adding brand new stories and photographs as soon as we have renewed our photograph permissions for the new session.

Let’s make this year the best year ever!

Summer Disco!

Last night, our pupils came out in their shorts and shades to enjoy the Parent Council Summer Disco!

The weather didn’t let us down, and neither did the entertainment! Our children enjoyed dancing, taking part in the limbo, having their faces painted and getting a silly snap at the photo booth – check out the gallery below!

We would like to say a huge thanks to our Parent Council and all of our parent helpers who came along last night. Many of our children told us today that this was the best disco ever!

Wear Red for Comic Relief!

Today marked the end of an amazing week of fundraising at Rochsolloch Primary School!

Our school and nursery children came to school wearing red, to celebrate the wonderful work of the Comic Relief charity.

Grand totals for both Comic Relief and Down’s Syndrome Scotland will be announced next week, but early indications show that we have raised around £200 for Down’s Syndrome Scotland and over £400 for Comic Relief.

In addition to this money,  we also managed to sell an unbelievable 300 red noses! Each nose sold provides Comic Relief with at least 60p towards the charity.

Don’t forget to tune in to Comic Relief TV tonight to find out about the wonderful worldwide projects that your generous donations will be supporting.  Red noses are available at Sainsbury’s for anyone who wasn’t one of the ‘lucky few’ to pick one up this week!

We are so proud of your efforts children!!!

Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day

As you will know, today is Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day!

At assembly last week, Mr Innes taught the pupils about what causes Down’s Syndrome, and how Down’s Syndrome can affect people.

Today we celebrated Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day by taking part in the Lots of Socks campaign, with lots of our school and nursery pupils and staff choosing to get involved in the fun of the day by wearing extra, odd or whacky socks!

So far, we have raised an amazing £164.50 to support the excellent work of Down’s Syndrome Scotland.

Next Week’s Fundraising

A quick reminder relating to next week’s plans:

Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day – Lots of Socks Campaign

  • Pupils to come to school wearing colourful, whacky, odd or extra socks and bring a £1 donation for Down’s Syndrome Scotland.

The Great Google Expedition

Today, all of our pupils from P1-P7 got the chance to take part in an amazing Google Expedition. Using virtual reality, our teachers guided our pupils through a variety of incredible locations linked to class studies, such as:

* The Great Barrier Reef

* The surface of the moon

* New York City

* The Great Wall of China

* Aurora Borealis

* Mount Everest

Our pupils absolutely loved this experience.  Here are some one sentence reviews from our P5 pupils:

“I thought it was a great experience and I thought it was absolutely amazing!” – Billy

“It felt so real!” – Archie and Robbie

“I loved it!” – Logan

“It was amazing having the chance to do that!” – Lucy

“It was good to have a different experience in school.” – Katie

“It felt like I was floating above The Great Wall of China!” – Max
