Rain or Shine!

Getting outdoors to learn through play is an important part of life in the Rochsolloch Nursery class! Our children are outdoors in all weathers! In this pair of snaps, you can see  that our children have taken their focus on ‘Sharing’ outdoors to look for ways to work together during water play.

It looks like great fun, boys and girls!

Nursery Sports 2017

On Thursday last week, we held our annual nursery class sports day!

Take a look at the gallery to see our little athletes running, jumping and throwing – and generally having a great time!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Mr Griffin and our P6 pupils for helping our wonderful nursery staff organise such a great day for the children. We’d also like to give a special mention to our superhero family members for being such good sports in the adult race!

Nursery Train Trips

Did you know that our nursery class regularly take short trips on the train?

Our children walk to the train station in small groups, talking about road safety as they go. The children also learn about the different roles people in society play. When the children are out and about they also look for where text and signs can be found in the environment.

Sounds like fun boys and girls – take us with you please!

Transition Playtime

On Tuesday, the boys and girls from our nursery class joined our P1s and P6s for a shared playtime as part of our transition programme!

The children enjoyed getting the chance to play in the school playground, and many of them had the opportunity to meet their buddies for next year! They also got a chance to get to know a few of our Rochsolloch teachers, so there will be plenty of friendly faces to greet them in August!

Foods from Around the World!

Our children have been learning about foods from around the world recently.  One of our parents, Chef John, came in to teach the children about Italian food!

He made some delicious carbonara, garlic bread and pizza for our boys and girls to taste! The children were also involved in helping Chef John, and enjoyed discussing all of the different ingredients in the food.

On behalf of the girls and boys, we would like to thank Chef John for coming to visit.  Thanks John!!!

Wear Red for Comic Relief!

Today marked the end of an amazing week of fundraising at Rochsolloch Primary School!

Our school and nursery children came to school wearing red, to celebrate the wonderful work of the Comic Relief charity.

Grand totals for both Comic Relief and Down’s Syndrome Scotland will be announced next week, but early indications show that we have raised around £200 for Down’s Syndrome Scotland and over £400 for Comic Relief.

In addition to this money,  we also managed to sell an unbelievable 300 red noses! Each nose sold provides Comic Relief with at least 60p towards the charity.

Don’t forget to tune in to Comic Relief TV tonight to find out about the wonderful worldwide projects that your generous donations will be supporting.  Red noses are available at Sainsbury’s for anyone who wasn’t one of the ‘lucky few’ to pick one up this week!

We are so proud of your efforts children!!!

Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day

As you will know, today is Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day!

At assembly last week, Mr Innes taught the pupils about what causes Down’s Syndrome, and how Down’s Syndrome can affect people.

Today we celebrated Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day by taking part in the Lots of Socks campaign, with lots of our school and nursery pupils and staff choosing to get involved in the fun of the day by wearing extra, odd or whacky socks!

So far, we have raised an amazing £164.50 to support the excellent work of Down’s Syndrome Scotland.

Nursery Nativity – Professional Photographs!

On the 21st of December, both our AM and PM Nursery Class children performed a spectacular show: A Wriggly Nativity!

Everyone who came along would agree that the show was absolutely terrific. The children looked incredible in their costumes and sang their hearts out throughout the show!

After the show, our parents and guests enjoyed a mince pie and the relaxing notes of Mr Bees.  Check out our professional photographs in the gallery below.  We would again like to say a huge thank you to John Wilson Photography for providing us with such perfect snaps of our little stars in action!

Mud Kitchen: The Official Grand Opening!

Last week, we held our long-awaited ‘Grand Opening’ of the Nursery Mud Kitchen.  Therese Henry from North Lanarkshire Council and Mrs McLean, our Head Teacher had the honour of declaring the Mud Kitchen (Officially!) open for business!

Following the opening, there was a tea party with the children, including celebratory dancing!  Our helpers were also sent home with mud mask favours as a token of our gratitude.

We would like to once again offer our sincere thanks to all adult helpers and staff who helped make this dream a reality!
