2nd Annual P1 Race for Life

This afternoon, our Primary 1 pupils and their parents and grandparents joined some of our staff to take part in our second annual Race for Life, in aid of Cancer Research UK.  Our P6 Sports Committee lead our children and their family members in a ‘gentle’ warm-up before they ran over 1km, starting in our school grounds and then heading off through the park in Cairnhill before turning and coming back down to the school to charge across the finish line under the watchful eye of the glorious sunshine!

Our children and guests then re-fueled with some juice and biscuits before taking to the podium to collect their hard-earned medals.

With the help of our school community, our boys and girls have helped to raise around £1250 for Cancer Research so far! Thank you so much for your incredible support.

Mr Innes would like to thank the fantastic staff team and wonderful parent helpers for helping to make this event a success.  He’d also like to thank the dedicated parents and grandparents who came along to run with the children and to cheer them on!

Most of all, everyone at Rochsolloch would like to say well done to our amazing P1 pupils! Great job boys and girls!

School Sports 2018

This morning we had our annual School Sports Day, bathed in glorious sunshine! Mr Griffin and Primary 7 have been working hard over the last few weeks to get everything ready for our young athletes. Our children were split into house teams and they rotated around eight different events:

* relay

* hocket dribble

* rugby run and throw

* netball shoot

* boccia bowls

* basketball

* tennis

* obstacle course

We finished off the event with a fun parents’ race…and our parents weren’t competitive at all!

Our children had a great morning, and were suitably exhausted when they returned to their classes!

Thank you so much to Mr Griffin and P7 for doing such a wonderful job, and to our guests who turned out in such great numbers to support the children. Thank you also for the wonderful feedback given to our staff and pupils after the event!

P1 Race for Life

Today we held our first ever P1 Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Our P1 children were joined by their parents and other relatives to take part in a tricky off-road 1K sponsored run.

Following a quick warm up, the children set off – amazing Mr Innes with just how fit they were! Friends and relatives had turned out to cheer them on as they left the school building and ran through the park at Cairnhill, and were waiting to raise the roof for their little superstars as they crossed the line on our football pitch at the end of the race!

After all the hard work, our pupils and their running partners were given a well-earned cup of juice before climbing the podium to receive their medals in front of their adoring public!

We would like to say a huge congratulations to the pupils, family members and staff who helped make the event a success – and to everyone who has donated to the cause. So far, we have raised over £500!

Finally – we would like to wish our Rochsolloch Rochettes good luck for the Race for Life at Glasgow Green tomorrow, with 15 female members of staff taking part to raise money for this amazing cause. If you’re at the race tomorrow, be sure to give them an extra loud cheer!

We are so proud of our Rochsolloch family!

Summer Disco!

Last night, our pupils came out in their shorts and shades to enjoy the Parent Council Summer Disco!

The weather didn’t let us down, and neither did the entertainment! Our children enjoyed dancing, taking part in the limbo, having their faces painted and getting a silly snap at the photo booth – check out the gallery below!

We would like to say a huge thanks to our Parent Council and all of our parent helpers who came along last night. Many of our children told us today that this was the best disco ever!

P1E Teddy Bears’ Picnic!

On Wednesday morning, Mrs Polatajko and the children of Primary 1 Edinburgh hosted a wonderful family Teddy Bears’ Picnic!

The children sang beautifully, wrote about their bears and drew some excellent pictures. They also made some delicious jam sandwiches from instructions they had written themselves! Their guests then joined them in playing some parachute games, before they finished off their day listening to Mrs Polatajko reading ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!’

We’re not scared!!!

Great job P1E; great job Mrs Polatajko! Check out the gallery below to see the fun!

After School Family Learning Club

After school yesterday, we were joined by some parents and children for the first session of our After School Family Learning Club.

Mrs McCulloch, Miss Allan, Miss Duncan and Miss Findlay worked with our parents and pupils on ‘Number Talks’, which is a new numeracy initiative being taken forward in our school.

The pupils and their parents worked together on a variety of calculations, investigating and learning new ways of working with numbers.

We have seen a big improvement in the ability of our children to solve calculations using efficient strategies since introducing Number Talks in our classes across the school. Many of our pupils are now much more confident in their understanding of number and their ability to tackle difficult calculations using a variety of strategies.

Keep it up everyone!

P1S Scottish Coffee Morning

We had a lovely start to the day today here at Rochsolloch Primary School as the children of P1S invited their families in to enjoy a Scottish themed coffee morning!

The children sang some lovely Scottish songs, danced and recited poetry for their adoring public, before joining their families for tea, coffee, juice and biscuits. We also learned about what makes our girls and boys proud to be Scottish.

The morning was rounded off with some prize bingo, with two lucky winners taking a delicious prize home this afternoon!

Thank you so much to all of the families who turned out to make this a memorable experience for the children, and for the lovely feedback which will be shared with the class.

Finally, a huge well done to Miss Clerkson, Mrs Fraser, Mrs Morisson, and all of our little Scottish stars in P1S!

Operation Mud Kitchen Complete!

After a great deal of hard work, we are delighted to announce that our Nursery mud kitchen is now complete!

The children can stop peering out of those windows now and can actually get out and explore…the messier the better!

We would like to offer our sincere thanks to everybody who has helped make this dream project a reality.  It was a magnificent team effort and we could not be any happier with the results!

Making Progress with the Mud Kitchen!

It has been a very productive few days over at the Nursery!  The sun has been kind to our parent helpers and nursery staff who have been working tirelessly on our brand new mud kitchen!

Excellent progress is being made but there are lots of jobs still to do!  Thankfully, we have a wonderful team, who are toiling away with smiles on their faces!

Our boys and girls can’t help but keep peering out of the windows to see just what’s going on!  With the kitchen itself arriving tomorrow, the excitement won’t let up any time soon.  Let’s hope the sun doesn’t let up either!

Curriculum Evening

Last night we held our Curriculum Evening for the 2016/17 session.  In response to demand, the theme of the evening was Literacy and English.

Staff and pupils presented examples of resources and activities and were on hand to answer questions from our parents.

PowerPoint presentations used by Mrs Hill, Mrs Paterson and Miss Duncan/Mr Innes will be available to download from the website in the coming days.

We would like to thank our parents and carers very much for attending and our staff for working so hard to prepare for the evening.  We would also like to thank our parents and carers for providing us with feedback from the event in order to help us improve!

Special thanks of course to our pupil volunteers, who did us all proud as always, and were the real stars of the show!

In response to the recently published Education Act Scotland 2016, North Lanarkshire Council are keen to emphasise the need for schools and parents to work together effectively to enhance pupil progress and school improvement.

Mud Kitchen Mood Board

Over the next few days, our ‘Mud Kitchen Mood Board’ will be going up in the Nursery foyer.  We are really keen to create a Mud Kitchen for our children to use during outdoor play but parents, grannys, grandads, we need your help! 025Do you remember how much fun it is playing in the dirt!? Do you have a few hours to spare? Can you help us source some of the equipment we need?

Read our latest Newsletter for full details or have a chat with a member of our Nursery team.
