Learning journey spotlight: Primary 5’s Bread mould investigation

As part of our Learning Journey, Primary 5 young scientists proudly shared the results of their fascinating bread mould experiment at our weekly Assembly, highlighting the importance of germs, hand hygiene and the conditions that influence mould growth.

Working scientifically, the children investigated the differences between bread handled with dirty hands, bread touched with clean hands and an untouched control slice. They also explored whether fresh bread and ultra-processed bread demonstrated differences in mould growth. Through careful observation and comparison, our young learners developed their scientific enquiry skills and uncovered some eye-opening findings about how easily germs can be transferred through our hands.

Their investigation provided a valuable, real-life insight into the importance of effective hand hygiene and the role that careful scientific observation plays in helping us understand the world around us.
