P1 Start Time – Effective 31st August 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

Please see the changes to start arrangements from next Monday 31st August 2020.

Primary 1 families can now use the drop and go facility from 8:45am, however, this will only work if parents/carers drop their children and then leave the area immediately to avoid impeding the safe drop off of other children. The pavements are too narrow to wait.

There are staff in the playground to supervise the children until 9am, however, if you feel in your judgement as a parent/carer that your child will require you to be there or that they will be too distressed going into school then you should wait until 9am when the bell rings and then meet the class teacher to bring your child in.  Parents/Carers are advised to wear a face-covering.

Children should not be dropped off any earlier than 8:45am as there are no staff in the playground to supervise.

You can use any gate to enter the playground and then children should make their way to their zone. Room 1 zone is zone 1 near to the girl’s toilets and Room 2 is zone 2 near to the boy’s toilet.

There are no changes to pick up arrangements, P1 children will continue to be dismissed at 2:50pm from their zone.

Physical Education

Dear Parent/Carer,

Thank you for your patience in awaiting further information about Physical Education. As you can imagine, it is challenging organising 2 PE sessions for each of our 16 classes when Government guidance only allows for outdoor PE at the moment, however please see attached the days that have been allocated to each class effective from Monday 31st August 2020. These days may be subject to change and this would be communicated to you by the class teacher via the Mossend App.

Please note, that PE will be outdoors in all weathers, therefore we ask that children come to school wearing something suitable for this. Government guidance states that we must provide children with 2 hours of PE per week and being outdoors is the norm for most schools across Scotland; so during this period children should come to school in their PE kit to limit clothing and belongings being transported from home to school and back.

Advised PE Kit

• Joggers (ideally waterproof)
• Outdoor trainers
• T-shirt or polo shirt (no football teams or colours)
• Change of shoes for indoors (optional)
• Change of socks (in the event socks get wet whilst outside)
• Waterproof jacket, with hood.
• Water bottle filled at home (water fountains are in use for refills).

Children will stay in their kit for the duration of the school day and will be supported to take part in PE even if they do not have their kit, so don’t worry about this. Remember, jewellery should be left at home on PE days for health and safety and any medication pupils may require (such as inhalers) should already be registered in our main office and the appropriate paperwork completed.

Many thanks,
Team Mossend

Comments Off on Lunches

Lunches

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are still encouraging children to have their lunch in school and to avoid going home during the school day, however, if it cannot be avoided then please note that lunchtime for all children is 12:15pm to 1:00pm.

Cost of lunch

The price of a two-course meal is £2.10 and consists of a main course plus soup, sweet treat fruit or yoghurt as indicated on the menu and the option of plain milk or chilled water. With each meal children also have a choice of two seasonal vegetables and/or salad with their lunch.

A free school meal entitlement is up to the value of the school meal price of £2.10. This includes all pupils from P1-P3.

Online Payment System

In response to the COVID 19 outbreak, we have made changes to our payment methods.  This includes taking cash out of the process which will help reduce the spread of the virus.

To register for our online system click here: https://www.ipayimpact.co.uk/IPI/mgslp?Bref=NLC.  The system will allow you to top up your child’s online account, view the menu and see what your child ordered each day.

If you require support with the online lunch system please email: onlineschoolpayments@northlan.gov.uk

Primary Menu

The primary menu runs on a 3-week rotation and you can view this on the online system and here: https://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=5594.  Your child will be asked by their class teacher each day to pre-order their lunch so it can be ready for them in the canteen. It would help us, particularly for younger children, if you discuss the menu options with them in advance so they know what they are doing.

Free School Lunches

All P1-3 children are entitled to a free school meal each day.

For children in P4- 7, you can check your eligibility for free school meals and apply online at https://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=5452.  If you require support with this you can email: fsm@northlan.gov.uk

Packed Lunches

Of course, your child can still bring a packed lunch to school and there is no requirement to eat from the canteen. We would ask that packed lunch boxes are labelled with your child’s name and that you do not provide any food that contains or may contain nuts.

To help us, please ensure that snacks for the interval are not inside packed lunch boxes as this often confuses younger children who think they don’t have a snack to eat at the interval.
