HEALTH WEEK

Yet another very busy Health Week organised by Mr Sharp…no-one does it like him!  From Inter-House competitions to adults Vs pupils sporting events and positive mental health experiences, it’s all been going on!

Many thanks to all family members who joined in the fun, turned up to support us, or cheered us on from afar.  We couldn’t do it without you.

COMMUNITY LINKS

We were delighted when PASP invited our P.1 pupils along to the official opening of the new park.  Along with St Timothy’s pupils and some younger children from partner providers, our young team tried out the new environment and gave it their full approval!  I hope this fabulous resource will feature in our outdoor learning programme next session as we aim to further extend our learning experiences.

SUMMER SHOWS AND CELEBRATIONS

Our Summer Show will be ready to go on Monday 19th June (2.00pm) and Tuesday 20th June (9.45am).  Pupils from P.1-P.7 will take part.    Tickets will go on sale on Monday 5th June.  Initially we will offer 2 tickets per family to ensure everyone has the chance to have a loved one in the audience.  An email with ticket details has gone home already this week, detailing prices and arrangements.

HEALTH WEEK

Remember we have health week coming up.  Don’t forget that pupils should not be wearing jewellery on gym days – that means you should leave it all at home next week as we have a lot of activity planned!

Lots of information has already come home, but some dates you may want to remember:

  • Nursery Sports – Wednesday pm
  • P.4-7 Sports – Thursday am
  • P.1-3 Sports – Thursday pm

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you on TUESDAY!!

Week 3 Menu coming  up

If your child pays for school lunches, please remember to add money to their lunch card BEFORE they come to school.  Thank you.

PARENTS’ NIGHT

Many thanks to all who attended our Parents’ Night last night.  It was lovely to catch up with so many families.  If you could not manage and would like to discuss your child’s progress at this time, please contact the school office to arrange a telephone appointment with your child’s teacher.

ATTENDANCE

This week I have had the chance to discuss attendance with many families.  As you know, the expectation across Scotland is that attendance should not fall lower than 90% in a school year.  As a school, our overall attendance is sitting at 88%.   We have 40% of all pupils still not reaching the 90% threshold.  If you need help encouraging your child to attend, please continue to speak to us and we will devise a plan that works for you.  As I said to many  parents this week, every day really does count.  Please remember that there are lots of learning opportunities still to come in Term 4 and we do want your child here right up until the very last day.  #partnership

UNIFORM BANK

We have a HUGE AMOUNT of lost property still left, even after our Parents’ Night Amnesty!  Over the coming weeks we intend to sort it out and offer a free Uniform Bank to all families.  Please contact me if this is something that would benefit your family now or as we look ahead to the next school year.  No questions asked – just come and take what you need.

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS

While we continue to consider the academic improvements we can make each year, we also have a willing group of parents who are keen to address the look of the school environment at this time.  A huge THANK YOU to all the family members who have been working flat-out this week!   If you have a few hours to spare and would like to help with gardening or painting outdoors, please let me know.   The more, the merrier!

P.1 INDUCTION DAY

We look forward to welcoming all new families at our next Induction Event on Tuesday morning.  After a time of play for the children, adults will be invited to join them for lunch together.

HEALTH WEEK 30 May – 2 JUNE

Health Week information was sent home via email this week.  If you are not receiving emails, please contact the school office to rectify this.

FUN 31 WEEK!

I can’t thank our school community enough for all your support to make this week a fun week where our pupils have made happy memories.

We were overwhelmed by the huge number of family members who joined us for our March for Change on Wednesday.  In addition to around 100 parents, grandparents and carers, we were delighted that Councillor Woods and Councillor Bustard also came along to offer their support.  Together we collected 25 bags of rubbish from the local area, raising the profile of the school at the same time.  We are proud to be leading the way in improving our local environment.  Both our Eco Team and our Rights Respecting Schools Committee will continue to build on this good work going forward.

Yesterday, P7 did us proud, organising a fabulous fun day for all classes down on the pitch.  Everyone had the chance to take part in a range of games and sports, with our senior pupils taking the lead role here.  The weather stayed fine, allowing us to have our picnic together outdoors too.  It worked so well, we hope to make it an annual event.

As I type, I can hear even more squeals and laughter, as pupils enjoy bouncy castles, hired as a result of our recent P.7 fundraiser.  Once again, pupils working hard to support each other.  What a team!

Photos coming soon!

PARENTS’ NIGHT

Our final Parents’ Night of the session will be held, as planned, on Thursday 18th May.  Families in the school will continue to use the online booking system we have used over recent years.  Appointments will be in-person, in the gym hall as usual.  Information will come out to you to allow you to book your appointments next week.  As always, if you have difficulty using the online system, please call our school office staff, who will be happy to help.

Nursery Reports will come out before Parents’ Night and nursery families will organise suitable appointments by speaking to nursery staff individually beforehand.

ASSEMBLY THIS WEEK

Many thanks to our Peer Mediators who started work in all playgrounds this week.  We were delighted when they asked to make a presentation at assembly yesterday, telling us all how they have been trained to listen to our concerns and help us mend friendships.  Thank you for all your hard work!

Relationships, Sexual Health & Parenthood (RSHP)

All pupils brought home information leaflets about our RSHP programme this week.  It is assumed that all children will take part in these lessons.  If you wish to withdraw your child, please remember to phone the office today to let us know.

PARKING

Please remember, the STAFF CAR PARK should not be used for drop-off or collection of children.  There is no room for this and it is not a safe environment where children should be walking.  Thank you.

TRANSITION EVENTS

Transition events for our new P.1 pupils and P.7 heading to high school continue this term.

This week we welcomed a number of families who have children starting P.1 in August.  I hope I was able to put the minds of the parents and carers at ease, while the children got the chance to work in the P.1 classroom.  If you missed this meeting, or are still awaiting a placing request outcome, please don’t worry.  Your child will still get the opportunity to visit us twice before the summer – all children will get the same offer.  Our next planned visit is on the morning of 23rd May, when everyone will get the chance to eat lunch together and I will get the chance to meet more of you.

The P.7 pupils who are going to Coatbridge High will be heading up there this afternoon for a Science Lesson with their new teachers.  I can’t wait to hear what they have been up to when they return.  I know they will make us proud and be excellent ambassadors for our school!

RUGBY

With Coatbridge High School being a Hub for Rugby within NLC, it is a very popular sport within the Coatbridge Cluster.  We were delighted to welcome Active Schools back this week for a further Rugby session with our P.7 class.  It is great to see this better weather which lets us make more use of the grass pitch.  Long may it last! We are looking forward to more opportunities to get out on the pitch over the coming weeks.

BRING & BUY UPDATE

Once again, we are indebted to Mr Gall and our P.7 class for all the work they put into their Bring & Buy Sale before the Easter holidays.  After a few late money donations, the grand total is now sitting at £428.52!  Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this in any way.  P.7 will not be holding onto all that cash for themselves though!  They are using it to ensure their families do not need to pay any additional money towards their school trip to the Science Centre in May.  In addition they are hiring some bouncy castles for our Coronation Celebration and also buying some snacks for the whole school to enjoy that week!  Superstars, every one of them!

CORONATION CELEBRATION

In the lead up to the King’s Coronation on 6th June, we are planning a FUN 31 WEEK.  We are only at school 3 days that week, so we intend to mark the occasion by having special events each day.

  • Wed 3 June – Family Walk (an opportunity for families to join us as we carry out a Litter-Pick and Rights March around the local community)
  • Thu 4 June – Pitch Party (games, sports and picnics, hopefully altogether outdoors if the weather is kind!)
  • Fri 5 June (be King of the BOUNCY castle for a day…with inflatables hired by P.7!!)

Details of the above events will be emailed out to families early next week.  If you are the main contact for your child and you are not receiving emails, please contact our school office to get that fixed.

EDUCATIONAL EXCURSIONS

All classes will have gone on an educational excursion by June.  We have a few more trips still to come:

  • 16 May – Rooms 14 & 10 to the Glasgow Science Centre
  • 13 June – Room 9 to the Transport Museum
  • 14 June – Rooms 2 & 3 to Calderglen Country Park

We all return for school, nursery and breakfast club at the usual times on Monday 17th April.
