This week in Bikeability the pupils of P6 and P7 were learning to cycle slowly with control around an obstacle course in the playground. They had to slalom and change direction and had to cover their brakes as well as focus on their balance.

Coffee Morning
Our Parent Fundraising Group ran a really successful Coffee Morning today in the dinner hall. At the event some of our pupils, from the Nursery all the way up to the P7s, performed some of their songs from class topics.
Many thanks to all of the Fundraising Group and helpers who constantly give up their own time to help our school. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.
Thanks also to all the parents / carers and wider family members who came along today to support the event.
Have a look at some videos and pictures of the event below.
Halloween Parade
Today we had our Halloween Parade in the afternoon where all of the boys and girls came into school dressed up in all sorts of costumes.
Each class moved around the hall in a circle to parade their costumes and the teachers had the unenvious task of choosing their favourite costumes.
Have a look at the amazing costumes below!
House Assembly (Room 9) Friday 23rd October
On Friday we had our third House Assembly of the year.
It was the time of Room 9 to show off all of their hard work and learning from the class. They presented all of their learning on keeping our playground and the environment tidy by always picking up and placing litter in bins. They also sang a song for the school called “Every bit of litter hurts”. It was really impressive!
Next it was time to find out who had won the House Points this time round. To start off we found out who had the most class points:
Dundyvan: 120 Rosehall: 82 Summerlee: 114 Waverly: 61
Mr Clark then handed out all of the Fantastic Awards to the pupils who have worked really hard in the past 2 weeks. Each certificate earned 20 House Points! Dundyvan (260), Rosehall (100), Summerlee (80) and Waverly (60).
Then he told everyone which house had won the bonus 100 points for good behaviour (Rosehall and Waverly).
Finally Mr Clark announced the totals for all 4 Houses. The total points were as follows:
1st place: Dundyvan (380 points)
2nd place: Rosehall (282 points)
3rd place: Waverly (221 points)
4th place: Summerlee (194 points)
Well done House and the running score now sits as follows:
Dundyvan – 6
Rosehall – 9
Summerlee – 7
Waverly – 8

Football Friendly League: Wed 21st Oct v St Mary’s
Today our Primary 7 football team took part in their first fixture of the Coatbridge Football Friendly League. Our team of 10 players went along to St Andrew’s High School to play against St Mary’s Primary School.
Mr Gall sent minute by minute updates back to Mr Sharp, who was sitting nervously back in school.
We went down 2-0 after only a couple of minutes but, thanks to a quick reply from Graeme Mitchell, we scored to get back in the game.
Then disaster struck: 3-1 to St Mary’s and it looked like we were going to have a tough afternoon. The half-time whistle blew and Mr Gall had a chat with the team about our formation and told us to keep going!
Unfortunately just after half-time St Mary’s scored again to make it 4-1 then then hit the crossbar from a shot. Phew!
So you would think that we all gave up and just accepted defeat…no chance!
Graeme showed some skills once again to score and make it 4-2! Then Kyle came off the bench to make an instant impact. Graeme passed to Kyle and when the keeper came out to close him down he simply passed the ball into the net. 4-3!
Time was quickly running out for us and back at school Mr Sharp and the rest of the staff were thinking game over…once again we didn’t give up.
Kyle found himself just outside the box with only a couple of minutes to go and decided to have a shot. The ball flew off his boot, time stood still. Was it going in? Would Kirkshaws complete a miraculous comeback? Or did Kyle fluff his chance to be a hero?
Of course he scored – Kyle (the Kirkshaws saviour) – rescued a precious point in our first game of the Friendship League and we now look forward to playing our next match in November against St Bartholomew’s!
FINAL SCORE: St Mary’s 4 – Kirkshaws 4 (Mitchell 2, Taylor 2)
MOM: Kyle Taylor
P6 / 7 Bikeability – Session 1
Yesterday our P6s and a few of our P7s took part in their first Bikeability 1 session with David the instructor. It took us all a little while to get our bikes sorted and checked and learn the “Bike M check” so that all of our bikes are safe to ride from now on. We also had to learn how to fit our bike helmets properly. David has asked us all to bring our bikes back tomorrow (Thurs 22nd Oct) so that a bike maintainence team can check over and fix any problems.
