Kirkshaws Fundraisers Christmas Fayre

On Saturday our Fundraisers held their annual Christmas Fayre and, despite the horrible weather, the school was buzzing with lots of people coming along to support the group and all of the pupils.

On sale were lots of Christmas gift ideas from candles to jewellery and cakes to toys.  There was also a visit from Santa Clause as well for all the hard work from our pupils.

The grand total raised at the Fayre was an amazing £901!

A huge thanks to all of the Fundraising Group and everyone who helped to make the day such a huge success.  Your ongoing support of our school is greatly appreciated!

Christmas Enterprise Week / Bring and Buy Sale

All last week our pupils were working hard to create, price and then sell their own items for the Christmas Enterprise Sale.  Lots of pupils also brought in to school toys / books / DVDs and games that they no longer used for the Bring and Buy sale.

After lots of preparation and hard work the sale went ahead on Friday afternoon with the House Captain / Vice Captains and Pupil Council members helping to man the stalls.  It was a busy afternoon with pretty much everything being sold and the grand total made was an incredible £341.42

Well done to everyone from R1 to R16 for all their hard work.

House Assembly (Room 16) 27th November

Today’s assembly was the turn of Room 16 to perform at the House Assembly and they showed off all of their hard work and learning about Antarctica – a fascinating subject!

Have a look at some pictures below…

Next it was time to find out who had won the House Points this time round.  To start off we found out who had the most class points:

Dundyvan: 149    Rosehall:  119     Summerlee:   146      Waverly:  160

Mr Clark then handed out all of the Fantastic Awards to the pupils who have worked really hard in the past 2 weeks. Each certificate earned 20 House Points! Dundyvan (120), Rosehall (80), Summerlee (80) and Waverly (140).

Then he told everyone which house had won the bonus 100 points for good behaviour (Rosehall).

Finally Mr Clark announced the totals for all 4 Houses. The total points were as follows:

1st place:  Waverly 300 points

2nd place:  Rosehall 299 points

3rd place:  Dundyvan 269 points

4th place:  Summerlee  226 points

Well done Waverly House and the running score now sits as follows:

Dundyvan –  9

Rosehall –  14

Summerlee –  12

Waverly –  15

Visit from the SSPCA

This morning we had a visitor in school – Lauren from the SSPCA.

Lauren told us all about the charity and how we can look out and help animals who might need assistance because they have been abandoned or neglected.  Then she showed us a short video of the fantastic Wildlife Centre they have where they can take in lots of different wild birds and other animals when they get sick.  Finally Lauren spent lots of time answering all of our interesting questions and even listened to our stories of helping animals too.  As a special gift Lauren left a pencil for everyone in the school to take home.  Have a look below at some pictures…

Pantomime trips 2015

On Thursday and Friday this week our P1-7 pupils went along to the Civic Centre in Motherwell to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.  It was Room 1-4 on the Thursday with the rest of the school travelling on Friday morning.  As well as the fantastic show the pupils were also given their own little ‘goody bag’ to tuck into while they sat back and helped Snow White defeat the evil Queen.

P7 Football Team – Kirkshaws v St Bartholomews (Wed 18/11/15)

It was a wet and windy day.  Kirkshaws Primary were playing ST Bartholomews.  When the game started Kirkshaws got 2 early goals to put us in the lead.  St Bartholomews got a goal back to make it 2-1 at half-time.

When the second have started the flood lights came on and the ball got slippery then the captain Ross Mclellan scored a beautiful goal from 30 yards out!  It hit the crossbar and went in.  St Bartholomews pulled two goals back and then took the lead for the first time to make it 4-3.  Then Kirkshaws pulled a goal back with a stunning penalty kick.  As the final whistle approached we had a chance through on goal but their keeper saved the ball and put it out for a corner.  Then came the moment of the game…Graeme Mitchell floated a lovely cross over the keeper’s head and straight onto Connor Mitchell’s head.  Time stood still!  The crowd held their breath.  The ball flew into the net and Kirkshaws won the game 5-4.

The win puts us on 4 points and near the top of the league.

What a game!

Into Film Cinema trips

This week pupils from P1-7 who have achieved Bronze on their Go for Green Pathway were treated to a visit to the Showcase Cinema.  The P1-3 pupils travelled on Tuesday to see the film Home while the P4-7 pupils had to wait until the end of the week to see The Sound of Music.  Both trips went really well with all pupils behaving and representing Kirkshaws well!

We are hoping to organise another treat later on in the year for pupils gaining Silver and I am sure that all pupils in the school will work hard both in and out of class to achieve this goal.
