Week 2 Menus coming up!

PANTOMIME FUN

Can I give a huge THANK YOU to all the staff and volunteers who worked together to ensure each of our children had the opportunity to visit Motherwell Concert Hall yesterday.  It is the first time we have been in a position to do this since 2019, so we were all VERY excited!  I only wish you could all have seen the huge grins, the cheers, the boos as well as the dancing and singing by all our Kirkshaws Kids!  I was left in no doubt about the success of the trip by the steady stream of pupils who approached me in the afternoon thanking me for organising the trip!  I am certain you will all be hearing about the highlights for weeks to come – including Mr Gall’s starring role!

BIG CHEF, LITTLE CHEF

We have been given the opportunity to take part in a short cooking project.  For 4 weeks we will welcome the Big Chef, Little Chef team in to work with some of our pupils, along with an adult from home.  I can’t wait to see what delights they will create next week!

PROPOSED STRIKE DAY

Yesterday, NLC announced that all schools and term-time nursery classes would be closed on Thursday 24th November, if the planned teachers’ strike goes ahead.  At time of going of publication we have no more information about the plans for this day, but we will update you as soon as we do.

PARENTS’ NIGHT

Arrangements are going ahead for our Parents’ Night on Wednesday 23rd November.  If you are having any difficulty booking your appointments online, please call the school office and we will be happy to help.  The online booking portal closes on Monday morning at 9am.  Please remember, Room 14 will have their appointments at a later date, when Mrs Canning returns.

BIKEABILITY

Alongside Active Schools, we are delighted that we can offer Bikeability training to our P.6 pupils over the next few weeks.  We look forward to watching these young people extend and practise their cycling skills, learning how to be safer as they become more independent when cycling.  If anyone has not returned their sign-up sheet yet, this must be back in school by Monday to allow us to organise groupings, etc.

BOOK WEEK SCOTLAND

This week all our P.2 & P.3 pupils will bring home a READ, WRITE, COUNT bag.  Please take time to enjoy this gift together.  As this is Book Week Scotland, it is the perfect opportunity to share some new books together.

Earlier this week you should have received an email with an invitation to come and visit our Literacy Hub.  We have a huge range of library books available for anyone in our school community to borrow.  If you wish to borrow any fiction or non-fiction books, come along with your child before or after school and simply sign them out.  Many thanks to our Junior Librarians for all their hard work over recent weeks getting this reading environment up and running again!

NEW STAFF

We are happy to announce that we have a new member of staff in our nursery this week.  Miss Doyle will now be working with our youngest learners on a Thursday and Friday each week.  Welcome to Team Kirkshaws, Miss Doyle!
