Mrs N’s Notes ~ 8th Feb 2019
This week started with Mrs Peat frantically making phone calls at 9am on Monday morning to try to secure panto tickets for NEXT CHRISTMAS! Needless to say, she was successful and we will be heading to Motherwell to see Beauty & the Beast in December… more details nearer the time!
Our Parent Council met on Monday evening and we were delighted to be joined by a new member. We continued to focus on the road safety around the school. As a result of our meeting, we had a visit from Sustainable Travel staff taking an audit of traffic and pedestrians on the road later on in the week. In addition, we discussed the possibility of funding to provide additional play resources for our children. Please join us at our next meeting in May if you would like to find out more.
The dentists were in school on Tuesday, carrying out checks with our youngest and oldest pupils. We continually remind our pupils the importance of oral health. In school we promote the drinking of fresh water throughout the day. Juice can be taken at break times, but water is available to be drunk during class time. We discourage fizzy drinks in school. These are treats that are best taken at home. Fruit is also a super snack food which we would encourage in packed lunches and for morning break. We will continue to promote this in school at all stages.
Two of our P.7 pupils took part in the Coatbridge High School Burns Supper on Wednesday evening. They performed alongside P.7s from all our Cluster Primary Schools. Mrs McBain, Miss McIntyre and I were so proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout the entire evening. It was also fantastic to see so many former pupils taking part in poetry recital, drama and dance displays! Another proud moment for Kirkshaws.
Our RRSA Committee met this week, then went on to lead our whole school assembly on Friday. By now you are probably aware that there is a poster competition underway…if not, ask your child to tell you all about it. We are all working as a team to ensure we uphold the rights of every member of our school community.
As we head into our holiday weekend, can I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. I have been working very closely with a few families over recent weeks and it is a pleasure to see our partnerships go from strength to strength.
Remember school is closed on Monday & Tuesday for the mid-term break then closed to pupils on Wednesday for a staff in-service training day.
Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you back to school & nursery on Thursday.
