Mrs N’s Notes ~ 23.11.18

So what do teachers do on In-Service Days?

No, we don’t have a party, neither is it an opportunity to tidy up the classes and sharpen the pencils! 🤣

In-Service Days are training days for teachers.  Sometimes we work in Kirkshaws, whilst on other occasions we join with teachers in other schools.  On Monday we were based in Kirkshaws with another busy programme of events.

Mrs Harkness led our morning session as she is our Pedagogy Practitioner.  Mrs Harkness introduced all school and nursery staff to new guidelines around moderation and assessment.  Over the coming months she will continue to equip us with the knowledge to allow us to make sure that Kirkshaws pupils are performing at a national standard.  It is fairly easy for us to say we are working as hard as we can…but are we working at the same standard as other local schools? What about South Lanarkshire schools?  Are they achieving higher than us? Future cooperative opportunities will allow us to moderate learning and teaching across Coatbridge and further afield.

We then took time to review our School Improvement Plan for this year and evaluate how much ground we have covered already.  It was most encouraging to see how much we have achieved since August.  Maths is a huge part of our improvements this year, so we took time to organise our new maths and numeracy resources to make sure we are using then appropriately.

Believe me..it is certainly not a day off for staff.

Many thanks to everyone who attended our Parents’ Night on Thursday.  As a further development of of our Maths planning , we asked you to complete a questionnaire to tell us what you need to add to your learning at home.  I know that most of you took time to complete this on iPads on the night.  However, if anyone missed it, it is still available to complete on the school app. Your feedback is vital to make sure we get it right for all families.

Our aim … Getting it right for you!
