Mrs N’s Notes…

As I pause to take stock of my first term here, I would like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU ALL for such a warm welcome to Kirkshaws Primary School & Nursery Class.

It has been an extremely busy term, getting to know a huge number of individuals who make up the Kirkshaws Family.  The vital contributions made by the strong staff team, learners, Parent Council, Fundraisers and numerous volunteers have made my job so much easier.

STAFFING

Staff vacancies have given me the perfect opportunity to spend quality time, teaching in classrooms, experiencing first-hand the enthusiasm and eagerness to learn demonstrated by our pupils.  Over the next few weeks I fully expect to be welcoming two new members of teaching staff and look forward to introducing them to you as soon as possible.  Rest assured, you will be informed of any change to your child’s teacher as soon as this is confirmed.  Any alteration to daily learning will be managed sensitively to ensure a smooth transition, with your child’s needs at the centre.

USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Twitter is continuing to be a very useful tool to share our learning and celebrate success for both our nursery and the school.  I know we have a huge following in the Coatbridge area and beyond; a large group of parents and carers eagerly awaiting the regular updates.  We will continue to use this, but in addition, we aim to make more use of this, our school website.  Here, you can use the drop-down menus to find a wealth of information about the curriculum and wider life of the school and nursery.

It is worth noting that we see Twitter primarily as a ONE WAY method of communication.  We cannot guarantee that a member of staff will be available to respond to any comments or questions posted there, either during the school day or in the evening.

Any general queries to do with school business should be directed to the school office, which is open from 8.15am to 3.30pm daily.  Although teaching staff and management are in the building out with these hours, there is no-one specifically manning the telephones, so we often miss calls.  In the event of an emergency situation, the best way to contact me out with office hours is via email – enquiries@kirkshaws.n-lanark.sch.uk

FUNDRAISING

I have been overwhelmed by your generosity and commitment  to the school throughout the past two months.  My first Fundraisers Coffee Morning was ‘standing-room only’ and the P.7 Kilbowie Shop was sold out within just a few days!  Our Harvest appeal exceeded all expectations and, by all accounts, the Hypnotist Night was extremely well attended.  At a personal level, I cannot thank you enough.  Without your support, each of these ventures would fall flat.  Every penny raised goes straight back to your children, providing the treats and little ‘extras’ that we otherwise could not afford to provide.

On behalf of every Kirkshaws pupils THANK YOU!
