Primary 3/4 are learning about Ancient Egypt.
Reflective Friday certificates.
We have been given a huge responsibility in our class: a hatchery to take care of and prepare for our new arrivals, the brown trout eggs. We have been working hard to keep the water clean and cold.
However, it’s not all hard work in P4/5. We learned a bit about Robert Burns today as it’s his birthday. We learned what the song Auld Lang Syne is about and we sang it together while joining hands, just like we do at Hogmanay!
What a busy New Year we have had in Primary 5/6 and we actually surprised ourselves with how much we have achieved in this short space of time. We created a list but are only going to share a few things as we don’t like to show off!
Our new IDL topic is Global Goals which we had little knowledge of but after some research time we know that there are 17 goals and we will study each one. We created posters to highlight the importance of each goal.
In literacy we all have new reading books/novels and we are developing our reading strategies. One novel is called ‘Tilly and the Badgers’ and we are learning about badger baiting. This has given a great opportunity to talk about the facts and opinions of the subject.
We started our year in Health and Wellbeing and Thinking Circles looking at what we are thankful for and what we should aim to do more of. It was a great dusting of our minds and promoted meaningful growth mind set.
As we are a composite class our P6 peers have been able to share their experience of Cardinal Newman transition. They love the Science Ambassadors and the Sports Champions and we enjoy hearing about the learning. We are fortunate their learning on friction has enhanced our science topic on floating and sinking although we do have an idea for a home project so be aware parents and carers!
The best fun is martial arts every Tuesday were Kasia puts everyone through their paces and we all need to keep our guard up. She promotes active fitness and skill in a specialised area. We laugh at Mrs Gardner as she tries our lessons out on her family but we really enjoy Magic Mixer. It has improved our thinking in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division but we time it so it is quite competitive.
Most of all we have aimed to improve our classroom environment and routine to ensure we have variety. We hope you liked our twitter picture of a ‘Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gogh.
Happy Robert Burns Day one and all!
We are so excited about getting fish eggs to look after in P4/5! We chose a good spot for them, near a socket but far from radiators, and Clyde in the Classroom delivered our hatchery on Friday so we can start taking practising taking care of the eggs before they are delivered next Monday! We have lots of water bottles in the freezer to make big ice packs but could do with some more, please, so any empty screw-cap bottles of water, please please sent them our way! Thanks!
R.E. Literacy, Drama, Music, The Nativity, and Interdisciplinary learning ( IDL)
P1/2 have been so very busy with P1 and P3 getting their Wriggly Nativity Just right. Thank you to everyone who was able to come and see their wonderful performance, they enjoyed it very much.
(Practise pics.. See Video Clips and more Nativity Pics. on twitter)
Christmas Wreath and Jesse Tree
The children enjoyed making their Christmas Wreath and Jesse Tree. They also enjoyed learning about the candles on their wreath and symbols on their Tree and what they represent. (More pics to come)
Library Visit
P1/2 had a fantastic second visit to the Library. Where they got to return their books hear some exciting Christmas stories and choose their new books.
The children were so pleased they were able to go, as the weather forecast wasn’t good enough for the children to be able to walk there. However Mrs Dillon/Mrs Crawford saved the day and was able to order a bus for P1/2 to take them there and back. Thank you very much. They had a lovely time. Thank you also to all our wonderful helpers who helped to make this visit possible.
Christmas Experiences
P 1/2 have also been enjoying writing about the different experiences they have been having throughout the Christmas season. In particular they got really excited about writing to to tell Santa that they are trying hard to be very good and perhaps if he was not too busy he would like to know one or too of the gifts they would like for Christmas.
Thank you to Barbara and Tesco – Developing the Young Workforce and People Who Help Us
The children also enjoyed writing back to Barbara from Tesco, to thank her for the wonderful experience they had, to help them in their learning about ‘Developing the Young Workforce’ and ‘People who help Us.’
Below you can see some of the letters and pictures the children sent.
P1/2 Christmas Jumpers and Fundraising
During the season of Advent, Holy Family have been raising funds for charity one of the special days our P1/2 class particularly enjoyed was ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ where many of our children shared their snack money, or brought in contributions especially. Also a big thank you to all who have supported our children and school in this way. We appreciate it very much.
Christmas Party
P1/2 enjoy their Christmas Party with P1 and P3…
…and singing ‘Away in a Manger’ beside our Holy Family Crib.
The children also had a surprise visit from Santa and his Christmas Elf which they enjoyed very much.
Preparing for the Christmas Holidays
P1/2 helping to tidy up and enjoying their final day at school with their friends as they get ready for Christmas.
…and finally
P1/2 along with Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Byrne , would like to thank you all very much for your support and kindness in 2018 and would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and send our sincerest wishes also, for a very Happy New Year.
We began the month with our Entrepreneur Me activities presenting our business plans to Matt and waiting patiently to see if our loans were approved. Thankfully all were and the hard work was underway. We decided any profits from our enterprise would go to our friends in Unitas Court Sheltered Housing and to the parish St. Vincent de Paul
Another exciting day for us was when we were recorded by Radio Clyde morning show producer Calum for the Christmas jingle.
We had a visit to the Panto in Hamilton Town Hall, some of our class performed with the Christmas choir and we had a tasting day thanks to Barbara from Tesco. We did lots of Christmas maths activities including co-ordinates, in literacy we did some discursive writing this month and we enjoyed making Christmas wreaths and 3D Christmas trees.
Christmas dinner was fa and we had a great day at our party.
A very busy month…now for some rest.
Happy Christmas
Primary 6/7a have had a very busy month and have learned lots of new things.
Firstly we really enjoyed producing all of our entrepreneur me products and had fun selling them after the Nativity performances. This was a great success and we would like to thank you all for buying all of our products.
In class we have learned a lot about the season of Advent and have prepared ourselves to celebrate the birth of Jesus. We also have learned about Christmas in the past and how it was celebrated during the Victorian era.
In Maths we have been working on mental and written subtraction and also about co-ordinates which has been really fun. We have continued to read our Cathy MacPhail books and will continue these in January.
We can’t wait for our holidays to spend some time at home with our families. Primary 6/7a would like to wish everyone a healthy and Holy Christmas. See you in 2019.
Primary 5/6 have been extra busy this month as we wanted to finish the year on a high with all our hard work.
We finished our IDL topic on The Victorians and created fabulous posters showcasing all our learning. We enjoyed using a variety of sources to gather our information particularly, the Charles Dickens Shows from the internet. Everyone enjoyed the art activity which involved drawing Victorian houses and using different techniques to create line, patterns and shading.
In all our curricular areas we have tried to link it to the festive season by writing letters to Santa Claus, describing our perfect Christmas Eve and learning the poem ‘Twas the Night before Christmas’.
In numeracy we have been working on Christmas coordinates with a particularly challenging Christmas Tree activity.
We have also been extremely creative this term and have made robins, wreaths, tree decorations and advent candles using a wide range of techniques. Our Primary 5 pupils enjoyed an arts and craft session at the Baptist church and made decorated tiles. It was a fun filled morning and the children met many new friends.
During our PE lessons we learned some new Scottish dances and danced with our peers from other classes. We showcased our moves at our Christmas parties.
We wish all our family and friends a very happy and holy Christmas!
