We have had a very busy start to our new term, We had a great video chat with Dawn Childs, a group engineering director at Merlin Entertainment, where we learned all about her job and asked lots of interesting questions. We also had a visit from the SSPCA and really enjoyed making our own robots. The Cardinal Newman science ambassadors came to use this month also and taught us all about air resistance. We all had the opportunity to make our own parachutes to protect an egg. Our class really enjoyed this.
In Maths we have been working reading both digital and analogue times as well as changing 12hr time to 24hr time and back again. We have also been calculating time duration and looking at the various units of time. If we could ask that a focus is given to this at home we would appreciate it as it would really help us to improve. We have also been learning about length and measuring a variety of items using mm, cm and m. We will continue to work on these next month.
We started our new topic Natural disasters and all cannot wait to learn more about each of these extreme weather situations. So far we have learned a lot about Volcanoes and have investigated some very famous volcano eruptions. This allowed us to learn about the structure of the earth and how volcanoes are formed and erupt. Next we will be learning about earthquakes and how they occur.
We are looking forward to February and can’t wait to learn more.
