Today was our first meeting of the Focus on Food / Fairtrade Leadership committee group. We had a group discussion about what we want the group to achieve this year and voted for 3 aims for the year. Some children researched fairtrade snacks for a possible Fairtrade tuckshop while others created a ‘Courgette Loaf Cake’ using produce from our garden in the Learning Kitchen. We can’t wait until our next session!
The photographer was able to take all individual and family group photographs on Tuesday (20/9/16).
Unfortunately, P3, P4. P4/5, P5/6 and P6 did not receive their class photo. The photographer will be in school to take these pictures tomorrow (22/9/16).
May I remind you that children should be collected from their designated gate. They should be aware of any changes to pick up arrangements prior to coming to school.
Phone calls to the school office should be for emergency arrangements only. No child should be collected from the school office at 3.00pm unless this has been previously agreed with management.
If you wish to collect your child early a letter should be sent to their class teacher to allow for this to be organised. Thank you for your support with this important matter.
P5/6 have been deep in thought about our current topic of Native Americans. One request was to find out how to draw a Native American and this was achieved through a sketching class. Pupils were very careful to follow the directions and instructions and take each step with great concentration and application of their new found “whispery pencil” grip. It will be very interesting to see how the pupils follow it up when they are asked to make this sketch into a larger piece of art.
While working with our new Big Maths tasks, the pupils thoroughly enjoyed creating numbers and sticking them onto their partners back. It was then up to the partner to ask questions in order to find the number. This task continuously makes links to our maths and it was also very enjoyable. It appears that maths is easier when it is great fun!
P1 worked hard on developing their counting skills. I was very impressed with how accurately you counted. Well done.
Many thanks to all parents/ carers, friends and family members that attended our first open event of the session. A great opportunity for parents/ carers to learn alongside the children. Record breaking numbers in attendance. We are all ready making plans for our next open event on February 24 2017!

Family groups with children that do not attend the school or nursery should assemble in the school hall for 8.30am to allow for siblings to attend high school etc on time. Sibling groups where all children attend Glenmanor Primary or Nursery Class will be photographed throughout the day.

On Friday we held our whole school election for the p7 captains this year. Everyone got the opportunity to vote and our eight candidates will find out the results of the vote this week. Good luck to all!
As part of our Space topic, P4/5 were learning about the different phases of the moon. We watched a video, carried out some research and even played a game using Oreo biscuits. The boys and girls will be keeping their eyes peeled to see which phase of the moon is in the sky tonight!
