Primary 1a and 1b grow it, cook it, eat it!

Primary 1a and 1b have been growing some watercress in class and last week we took our watercress into the Learning Kitchen. We had great fun preparing a delicious watercress and apple salad and learned some safe food chopping techniques while doing so! Well done for working so hard and keeping safe and clean in the kitchen.   🙂

Thank you Ms Duncan, Mrs McCluskey and Mrs Kelly for helping us with our learning.

Miss Scott will take the remaining primary 1 children into the Learning Kitchen next week.

P3 Cheerleading Trophy

Four Primary 3 girls travelled down to Newcastle over the weekend for a Cheerleading competition.  They were very excited and nervous in the days leading up to the competition but we are proud to find out that they have come 3rd place!  The girls brought in a huge trophy and were very proud of their efforts and even had the bruises to show for them!

Well done Freya, Megan, Leah and Rebecca!DSC00414DSC00448

Sports Day Update – Postponed to 3 June

Sports DayMet Office weather forecast for 2 June is a yellow warning for wind so we are not taking any chances and therefore sports day will not go ahead tomorrow.

Met Office weather forecast for 3 June is bright with sunnier periods as showers die out so we hope to go ahead on Wednesday (Fall back day 1).

The races will take place as follows –

P3 and P4 9.15am-10.30am

P1 and P2 10.45am-12.00pm

P5, P6, P7 1.00pm-3.00pm

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the event and sign in at the tables provided then make your way to the speactators area to cheer on our budding athletes. Some seating will be provided. If additional seating is required, please ask a member of staff on the day.

Fall back day 2 has been changed to 11 June to accomodate other school events at this busy time of the year. Forecast is considerable cloud with a shower in spots.

I haven’t planned a fall back 3 date yet. Let’s hope we don’t need it!

Can you help?

We have two hard working volunteers in our school gardens but our gardens are bigger than two people!

If you, or someone you know, can spare some time to help in our school gardens, please contact the school and we can make arrangements for you to be disclosed. Sharon Nicol, former Parent Council Chairperson is available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons to help you with the disclosure process, which only takes a few minutes.

P6/7 and P7 School Excursions to Dumfries House

P7 visit Dumfries House on 1 June and P6/7 the following week on 8 June.

Parents, could you ensure that all pupils meet in the school hall at 8.45am on the morning of their excursion please? This helps us to get the pupils on the road and to the venue as quickly as possible.

Pupils will be participating in outdoor learning including gardening, cooking and play so could you also ensure that pupils please wear appropriate outdoor clothing on this day?

Thanks in advance!

P2/3 Rainbow Salad

P2/3 were in the Learning Kitchen this week and enjoyed working with the colourful vegetables that can be used in a salad.  They used a cutting technique called ‘the claw’ to help them cut their vegetables safely.  As well as learning to cut safely, this experience gave children the opportunity to taste the different vegetables.  To make this fun, each child made their own colourful, rainbow salad face and then with a little mayo, they started to crunch away.  If you like eating nachos and dipping them into salsa, why don’t you add a few crunchy vegetables to dip?
