A Busy Week in Primary Six

Primary six threw themselves into our cooking challenge this week and made ‘Patatas Bravas’.  We used the potatoes and onions that we grew in our own school gardens!  End result got the thumbs up from our official taster, Mrs Martin.

Pupils have been busy at home creating excellent posters displaying their knowledge of various aspects of the 1970s.  Pupils have worked hard and made some fantastic posters.

Welcome Chryston High Horticultural Group 23 September 2015

Our P6 pupils were delighted when Mr Jopling came down with his horticultural team today. We were pleased to see two former Glenmanor pupils return to their old school! The boys did a great job leading the P6 pupils to turn over the soil.

Mr Jopling had a look round our sensory garden and our community garden and gave Mrs Quinn some great advice and suggestions. We hope that we can work with the team to make our gardens a brilliant space for learning.

Thank you for helping us today! 🙂

Primary Six In The Garden

Primary six took advantage of our recent good weather and got working to maintain our school gardens.  Pupils worked hard litter picking, raking, weeding and preparing  our vegetable beds for planting.

Primary Six were also busy rehearsing for our school show ‘Is this the way to Amarillo?’ and I think that we are almost there!

We have been set a challenge to choose a recipe that includes onions and potatoes grown in our own school garden.   We will be judged on flavour, presentation and originality!  Pupils have been researching and found a huge variety of recipes to choose from.  We now need to decide which will beat the competition!

Expressive Arts – Choir Singers and Artists

P2/3 choir and P4-7 choir singing their hearts out today. P4-7 choir were practising hymns for the upcoming Auchengeich Memorial Service.

Outstanding art work from P4-7 artists in residence at Glenmanor! They were doing a masterclass on the pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. Fantastic! Next week we will feature our dance group!

Primary Six Homework Topic 1970s

Primary Six and The 1970s

!BAY-CITY-ROLLERS-1975-16-600x378

This term P6 pupils will be reaserching a variety of information relating to the 1970s.  We will be using a variety of sources to find out about things such as fashion, music, sporting achievements, playground games, technology, decimlisation, local and world news events.

As a homework task, pupils have been asked to create a display of knowledge poster.   Children can either focus on one area or include a variety of their own choosing.  The layout is optional but should include relevant headings, graphics, photographs and some written detail.  Can I ask that posters be handed in by 23rd September please.

In class we have been learning to sing and dance to ‘Show me the way to Amarillo’ as well as learning about who The Bay City Rollers  were and learning  ‘Shang-a-lang’.   Not sure who is having the most fun!

P4-7 Cooking Leadership Academy

16 June 2015

Mrs Martin taught our cooking leaders how to make chocolate truffles for the P7 graduation. Ms Kelly supported Mrs Martin in the learning kitchen as the pupils melted chocolate, bashed biscuits and mixed them together with coconut. The pupils mixed the ingredients together, used their hands to roll them into balls then coated them in chocolate. Once completed, the truffles were placed on a tray and placed in the fridge, ready for the big day!

Mrs Barrington worked with the rest of the pupils on three tasks related to the official launch of our learning kitchen next session. The tasks were to design an invitation for the official launch of the learning kitchen ,  to create a buffet menu that the cooking leadership academy could make and to plan the events for the opening.  Sophie had some super ideas for the last task and is showing the skills of an event manager in the making!

K’nex West of Scotland Final 10 June 2015

Beth and Jack participated in the West of Scotland K’nex Challenge at University of Glasgow today.  We were first to arrive at the beautiful Hunter Halls so we helped the organisers set up the equipment. The challenge today was to create a fork lift truck. Our team achieved the brief and were pleased with their results.

Unfortunately we were not placed this time but we were delighted to find out that Beth and Jack had reached the top 26 of 8266 pupils who participated in the challenge! 254 schools entered and only 13 schools were represented in the West of Scotland final today. Well done to our team who celebrated with an ice cream!

Congratulations to the winning team from Lainshaw Primary, East Ayrshire and the runners up from Newington Primary, Dumfriesshire!
