P2/3 choir and P4-7 choir singing their hearts out today. P4-7 choir were practising hymns for the upcoming Auchengeich Memorial Service.

Outstanding art work from P4-7 artists in residence at Glenmanor! They were doing a masterclass on the pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. Fantastic! Next week we will feature our dance group!

P3 Parents Open Event Part 2 (Cafe Espanol)

The second part of our parents event took place in the Learning Kitchen where the pupils from P3 and Spanish Club pupils from P4 and 5 were serving tapas (Spanish snacks) to all our visitors.

Spanish cafe food

The cafe was very popular and successful with pupils serving the food in Spanish and helping their parents/guardians with the pronunciation of the phrases left on each table.  The tapas were eaten up very quickly so we haven’t got many pictures of the snacks on offer but we do promise they were delicious – muy delicioso.

Thanks to all my helpers especially Johnathon who took the photos for me as I was busy in the kitchen.  Muchas gracias for such a wonderful turnout!

P3 Parents Open Event Part 1 (Garden)

P3 were amazed at the turnout for our final Parents Open Event on Mon 15th June.

Parents, guardians and pupils had previously planted sunflower seeds back in February.  The pupils have then been caring for their sunflowers at home and have now brought them to school for planting.  We were very pleased with how well the children have taken care of their plants and how tall they have grown!

The winner of the tallest sunflower goes to David with a sunflower height of 144cms!  Well done!

Pupils tied their sunflowers to the railings or sticks for support and made sure they used some compost and water to help them grow.

P3 Trip to Pizza Express

On 28th April, P3 were really excited to go to Pizza Express at The Fort where they got the opportunity to make Margherita pizzas with a pizzaiolo (pizza chef).  They even managed to raise money for the cost of the bus through their Beadtastic Enterprise – making and selling bead bracelets throughout the school.  Thanks to all Glenmanor pupils and parents for your support!

Each pupil had their own pizza base and were responsible for spreading out the dough and tomato sauce.

The pizzaiolo then showed the children a trick for making the tomato sauce spread evenly around the base without using a spoon by shaking the base.  It was quite tricky!

The pupils then added the mozzarella topping to their pizzas and the pizzaiolo then cooked them in the oven for us.  We then got the opportunity to taste fresh basil, mozzarella cheese and black olives.

Afterwards we took the yummy pizzas back to school and enjoyed them for lunch.  The class are really excited now about cooking in our school kitchen after this wonderful experience!

P3 Parents Open Event Tomorrow

Invitation
Invitation

Parents and guardians of P3 pupils are invited to bring in their sunflowers for planting in the garden at tomorrow’s open event.  That is if you can carry them as I have heard many are now too tall to move!  We look forward to seeing you at 9.30am in the garden and at 10am we shall be inviting you to try some Spanish tapas along with tea, coffee or juice in our learning kitchen.  The pupils have been learning how to take orders in Spanish so please have a go using the phrases we will have left on the tables for you!

Hasta manana!  See you tomorrow

P3 Baking – Yummy Scones! (Part 2)

The last two groups from P3 got their chance to show off their baking skills on Monday 3rd June.  They made delicious butternut squash and thyme scones.  They worked hard at greasing the baking trays, rubbing the butter into the flour, stirring in all the ingredients without making too much mess.  Then came the fun bit rolling out the flour and patting the dough into scone shapes.

Everyone was fantastic at cleaning and washing up as well as remembering all the safety rules!  We all look forward to getting more opportunities in the learning kitchen next year.

Thanks very much to Mrs Kelly and Mrs McCluskey for all your help,  we couldn’t have done it without you!
