Summer Service 24 June 2015

To help celebrate a very successful year pupils, staff, parents and members of the community came together to recognise our achievements and say goodbye and good luck to P7 and Mrs McLeod. We were entertained by both our junior and senior choirs.  “Midnight Sketch” who are a band from Chryston High performed two songs.

Pupils with perfect attendance were recognised with a certificate. Our school Chaplain, Mark McKeown spoke warmly to our P7’s about moving on and new beginnings.

Mrs Karen Wallace and Mrs Jackie Holmes from our Parent Council presented every P7 with a tie for high school, an autograph book, pen and a photograph from their P7 party. Thank you to the Parent Council for their continued hard work and dedication to raising money and supporting our school.

Mrs McLeod was presented with flowers from the Parent Council, a special book containing a good luck message from every child in the school and flowers from staff.

Thank you to all parents and members of our community for your continued support. We hope you have a great summer.

Perfect Attendance Certificates  will be awarded to 13 of our pupils.

We will then share the names of the P7 School Cups winners and the pupils can hold up their cups again in front of all the pupils. The winner of Robert Burns World Federation Primary School Art Competition will also show off their cup.

Our School Chaplain Mark McKeown will talk about New Beginnings.

Next our Parent Council Presentation will take place, where the pupils will be presented with school ties and autograph books and pens.

Our Senior Choir will sing ‘Higher Than Higher’ and ‘See You Again’

P5/6 Cooking Up A Storm with Chef Adrian!

17 June 2015

Primary 5/6 had the most fantastic morning cooking up a storm with Irish celebrity chef Adrian, along with  Stewart from S Collins & Son Butchers, Muirhead. We were delighted that Natasha Tobin, Store Manager from our local Co-op, Stephen Moore, NLC Quality Improvement Officer (Health and Wellbeing)  and Dorothy-Ann Aubrey, NLC Focus on Food Development Officer were able to join us. We were also pleased that Jennifer and her mum came along too because we didn’t want them to miss this fantastic event!

Adrian and Stewart started off with a presentation. We learned about different cuts of  meat and where the cuts come from on the animal.  We also learned about the importance of being able to trace the origins of the meat we eat and how best to cook the different cuts.

Then we had a fabulous cookery demonstration where Chef Adrian created 3 wonderful dishes  –  steak with potato rosti, spring rolls and checken curry. Adrian helped us all become aware of the dangers of our unhealthy diets and the problems we will face in the future if we don’t educate ourselves on what we should be eating and how we should cook it. He also showed us how easy, delicious and healthy it is to cook from scratch using locally sourced ingredients.

After the cooking demonstrations, some of the pupils showed Adrian and Stewart the food we are growing in our school garden to achieve the grow it, cook it, eat it philosphy at Glenmanor. He was very impressed!

We would all like to say a massive thank you to Stewart Collins for giving us the oportunity to participate in this fantastic experience and we hope to work with him in the future.

P7 Graduation 19 June 2015

We had a fantastic graduation afternoon yesterday with our P7 pupils,  parents, friends and members of the community.

It started off with a wonderful rendition of ‘Hold Back The River’ where the pupils sang their hearts out.

We watched their hilarious video perfomance ‘Songs in the Real Life’ and their ‘Back to The Future’ Memories Sketch.

Next was the pupil’s own ‘ Oscar Awards Ceremony’

Then lots of  ‘ahhs’ as we looked at photos from P1 and P7 of each pupil during the ‘Forever Young’ Photo Presentation

The Movie Theme Dance Off was full of energy and the jury is out on who really won. Boys? Girls?  Here are a selection of photos from the dances –

All pupils were then presented with a personalised certificate of achievement by Ms Brunton (P7 teacher)  and Mrs Charles (P6/7 teacher).

One of the most tense moments came next while each pupil waited to hear who had been awarded the six school cups. The cup names and reasons for being awarded are as follows – Moore Cup (Successful Learner), Lynsey Henderson Cup (Effective Contributor), Scottish Water Solutions Cup (Responsible Citizen), Joan Matthews Cup (Confident Individual), Botterills Cup (Outstanding Sports Person) and Auchengeich Memorial Cup (Exceptional Team Player).

And the worthy winners were –

We also presented this delighted pupil below with a beautiful trophy on behalf of Robert Burns World Federation for winning the National Primary School’s Art Competition. We also had the pupils who won 2nd and 3rd in this competiton. All three pupils received a certificate  and their art work is on display in the reception area.

Our Infant Choir rounded off a great event by singing three songs “The Banana Song’,  ‘Frozen In Summer’ and ‘Never Miss A Beat’.

Then it was time to relax with family and friends with a wee glass of fizz (Shloer!) and some lovely truffles hand made in our learning kitchen.

Thank you to Ms Brunton, Mrs Charles, Glenmanor Support Staff, Parents and Family for making this a fantastic event.  And ofcourse the P7 pupils themselves! Thanks also to John and Leah for taking all the photos you have viewed on the blog. Great job done!
