SCHOOL NEWS

AUTHORS IN SCHOOL

We were delighted to welcome authors John Fardell and Matt Oldfield to school.  John, who is an author and illustrator, ran an interactive session with two S2 classes on the creativity of using pictures and words to create an engaging and dynamic story. Matt, author of many books about famous footballers, used the session with S1 pupils to talk about using a passion for the subject when writing.  We would like to extend our thanks to both John and Matt.

“Very interactive and fun” (Daniel, S2)

“Really entertaining to hear about how he (Matt) started writing.” (Mia, S1)

READ FOR REFUGEES SUNFLOWER CHALLENGE

The sunflower challenge is inspired by the national flower of Ukraine.
Pupils in S1-S3 are being encouraged to participate in the UK Read for Refugees Sunflower Challenge. After ten million Ukrainians have had to leave their homes, we are asking pupils to take part in a sponsored read to raise money for the United Nations Refugee Agency which provides emergency assistance for refugees worldwide.

Students could ask for donations from friends and family per page, chapter, or book read; by hours spent reading; or simply for a flat donation to support their involvement. All donations are valuable no matter what the amount.

Any pupil wishing to participate should collect a sponsor form from the Librarian.

All sponsors can donate directly on the project’s Just Giving page
