INFORMATION EVENING

We hope that all those who attended our P7 Open Evening last week found it helpful and informative. If however, you were unable to come along and have any queries regarding the transition to Greenfaulds High next session, please contact Mrs Eileen McLoughlin Depute Headteacher on 01236 794876

SAVE A LIFE FOR SCOTLAND

On Thursday 25th October S4 pupils learned how to save a life by being taught life-saving CPR skills. Fraser and Eilidh Simpson are both volunteer CPR Trainers with St. John Scotland, they organised a session in school, to share their knowledge and skills, and invited St. John trainers and experts along to help support the day’s training. This involved teaching all S4 pupils how to perform chest compressions effectively, to keep a person in cardiac arrest alive until the ambulance arrives.

Fraser and Eilidh volunteered with St John Scotland because they wanted to learn new skills, understanding the importance of CPR. They also want to study Medicine at University and thought this was a worthwhile way of gaining experience within healthcare. When they contacted St John Scotland, they found out about the ‘Save a Life for Scotland’ campaign, aiming to teach 500,000 people bystander CPR by 2020. They thought this would be a great way to gain an insight into the medical profession and learn CPR techniques whilst working with the public facilitating training in CPR.

Through CPR training people are learning the skills needed to save a life which could prove critical in an emergency. It gives people the confidence to step in and help if needed, providing a lifeline to people, so they may be kept alive long enough for proper medical help to arrive, and increasing their likelihood of survival.

The day was well received by pupils and staff and the hope is that the school will welcome St John back next year to complete a similar training day. Everyone who took part and benefited from this experience would like to thank Fraser and Eilidh for their contributions to a very productive day.
