More Tuesday blogging

Thomas  – ” We went gorge walking today. It was COOOOOOOLD! I didn’t jump in but I did jump in at canoeing.”

Craig – ” Today I did canoeing and skiing. Skiing was fun but very cold. I like my red hat because it matches my jumper and keeps me warm! I found it difficult being the captain because everybody was trying to take over me. The flapjacks were amazing! The sheep chasing was good too!”

Blair – ” Yesterday was fun but it was really cold. Today our group did canoeing and gorge walking. My favourite activity was canoeing because it was fun using the oars to row and steer the canoe. The gorge walking was really cold and I fell in twice. I am looking forward to climbing this week.”

Mrs McIntyre – ” Today i went canoeing with group nine. They tried hard to work as a team. I whipped Blair, Daniel R and Daniel F at air hockey! P7 are no match for me!”

Tuesday evening 11.12.12

Daniel R.  “I was the captain during canoeing.  I was epic.  On my canoe were me, Zach, Kieran, Craig but we were also joined to another.  I felt safe it couldn’t tip over and I was wearing my waterproofs and bouynacy aid.  Mrs McIntyre claims that she was the best but she wasn’t.  I really enjoyed chasing sheep on the Island and tasting the Flapjacks.”

Emma – ” Gorge Walking – The Gorge walking was very, very, very cold, we were all freezing.  There were Icicles hanging from everything.  We had a lot of fun, but wouldn’t want to do it again any time soon.  We needed and wanted a hot shower when we got back to heat us up.  I am feeling really tired and a bit sore, but really looking forward to the rest of the week especially Skiing.”

Sarah M. – “Today I went canoeing and Gorge Walking.  I really enjoyed the canoeing but I didn’t really enjoy the Gorge Walking as much.  It was freezing, my wellies were full of water and my whole body felt like an Icicle.  I can’t wait for the activities tomorrow especially Skiing.”

Kirstie – “Today I went Gorge Walking and Canoeing.  Sarah S. PULLED me (by accident) into the freezing river during the Gorge walk, which soaked me to the skin.  I had to take about 3 showers to make the feeling return to my toes.  At canoeing we joined 2 canoes together, and used paddles to steer the canoe.  At the end we got the chance to jump into the water, but I decided not to, although everyone else did even Mr Flannigan.  It was very funny watching everyone floundering about in the water. ”

Sarah S. – ” First we did Gorge Walking, which was freezing.  I was walking along a thin ledge and fell into the water, pulling Kirstie with me.  The water went into my wellies and I couldn’t feel my hands or toes.  I slipped about 100 times, but didn’t hurt myself badly.  We could go under the waterfall but I chose not , Anna , James,  Daniel F. and Mr. Flannigan were crazy enough to go in.  The canoeing was the best because we made a raft and got to row over and explore another Island.  Then we had a short time Kayaking.  Jade and Anna capsized and I was soaked for the 2nd time today as I jumped into the salt water (which tastes disgusting and is freezing)”

Emily – “Today I learned how to Ski.  It was hard at first, as we had to wear heavy boots and Skis.  It is a dry Ski slope, and if you fall it really hurts.  At first we were given certain heights to go up to, a few people made it to the top.  It was really fun and I would highly resommend it.  This morning I went canoeing, we went to Heather Island with Keith (our instructor).  He taught us how to paddle safely.  The water was freezing and my welly boots got a hole in them which kept letting in water.  Thank goodness we were allowed to have a sneaky Flapjack and Juice! ”

Aimee A. – “Today I went canoeing, with Sarah M., Erin, Myles, Emma, Hannah, David, and Andrew.  We canoed to another Island, and we played games on the Island.  It was lots of fun.  We also went Gorge walking through a rocky river (with lots of Icicles) and we climbed over lots of obstacles.  Then Erin, Hannah, Andrew, Myles and I went into the Waterfall.  The water was deep and up to my chest, it was freezing because it is the middle of December.  Myles and Andrew came out because it was too cold, but Erin, Hannah and I stayed in for the longest time.  Erin even lost one of her wellies.”

Aimie O. – ” This morning I went Canoeing to Sugar Cube Island.  We had a sneaky FlapJack and Juice.  After lunch we went to the Dry Ski Slope and learned how to Ski.  There were different levels which meant different heights.  I got to the highest level, and that was the fastest.  It was really fun, but quite cold.  I am really looking forward to Climbing and the Adventure Walk tomorrow.”

Tuesday 11th December Lunchtime update

Andrew – ‘ Yesterday I jumped in the water and it was freezing. Last night  the night activity  was Departure, it was really hard but good fun! This morning I did canoeing. it was really fun, but it was hard at the start. This afternoon I’m doing gorge walking. I can’t wait!”

Sarah M – ” Today I went canoeing. I was in the same group as Andrew. Me and Myles were the captains of each other’s boats. I enjoyed canoeing with my group. Later on I will be doing gorge walking. I’m feeling nervous and I hope to keep dry.”

Imogen – ” Today my group went canoeing and we were all excited to take part. In my group there were eight people and two boats. Girls in one boat and boys in the other. It was amazing but cold! It took about two hours to sail across the sea to the island. We are skiiing this afternoon.”

Tuesday 11th December

Arianne – ” Yesterday I was jumping in the sea. It felt cold. Daniel pushed me in! Last night was quite fun. I was the first one asleep in my room. Aimee, Aimie and Emily are in my room. Our room is messy. We only got 5 out of 10 from Mrs White. I’m doing gorge walking today in the morning and skiing in the afternoon. I’m looking forward to it”

Aimie – ” We are doing gorge walking and skiing today and I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to other activities like canoeing and other stuff. Last night was fun because we were sitting talking but then we fell asleep.I’m mostly looking forward to the safari.”

David – ” We were climbing over rocks yesterday and we jumped into the water. Last night we played the Airport game. We had to find different countries in the dark. It was good. It took me a while to get to sleep last night because I was excited and in a strange room. We might be canoeing today depending on the weather!”

Thomas – ” Yesterday I did orientation and the tour of the grounds then we went to the beach and we all went in and got absolutely soaking! After dinner we went out to do a night time scavenger hunt. I kept getting lost! It took ages to get to sleep last night. I’m looking forward to skiing and gorge walking.”

Myles – ” We jumped into the sea yesterday afternoon and we were taken round the rocks. Last night we were playing games – blind man’s bluff in Daniel’s room. It took about an hour to get to sleep because the light was on outside.”

Monday 10th December 2012 (midnight update)

Both corridors very quiet now – all settled and off to sleep. Thanks for your comments. We will try and update this blog in the evenings between showers, dinner and free time! That’s if they can be persuaded! I will try hard to make sure all children get the chance to blog. However, some are more interested in making the most of the tuck shop and the games room in the small amount of free time they have. Tomorrow’s activities look good – Gorge walking, skiing, canoeing are three of the options for tomorrow – weather dependent!

Rooms are being inspected daily with prizes on offer! At the minute, Jade and Hannah are in the lead with 8 out of 10! Boys’ rooms scoring no more than 6 out of 10 so far! However, that will soon change I’m sure.

Monday 10th December 2012

Today we left school at about 9 o’clock. We headed towards Stepps Primary before starting our long journey towards Oban.

James – “I’m sharing a room with Daniel, Kieran and Craig. Once we came in we had to make our beds. Mrs McIntyre had to get me out of the games room to make my bed. Then Mrs White came up and told me again, because I had escaped back down to the games room. Our group went into the sea! I was doing Gangnam style and I slipped!”

Jade – ” Hannah slept on my knee on the bus. It was about 3 hours to get to Kilbowie. We were told about our rooms. We’ve got the teachers’ room with the bathroom. The teachers are moaning because they don’t have bathrooms. Today our group were exploring about and then we went into the lake and went swimming. It was cold!”

Kieran – ”  Keith was our instructor today. We were jumping into the sea.It was really cold! We had to take our wellies off and pour the water out. After that we had to take off all our other equipment and put it in the drying room so we could wear it tomorrow! I’m looking forward to gorge walking.”

Hannah – “Our room is big and it is the best room, even better than the teachers’ rooms. We got soaked today because we all jumped into the water. I’m probably looking forward to the gorge walking the most.”

Anna – ” I was nervous and excited before getting on the bus. The bus ride was really exciting because we were all looking out for Kilbowie. When we arrived, it was nice to get off the bus and settle into our rooms. I’m sharing with Erin who I wanted to share with.  We had lunch and then we went to our first activity. We walked round until we reached the beach and we went in the water. It was freezing! Tomorrow we are going gorge walking and we are excited about it.”

Erin – ” I was really nervous at first because I didn’t know what to expect. Then we got on the bus and it was a really long journey. Eventually we reached Kilbowie. I was worried about who I would be sharing a room with. It turned out okay because I was with Anna. Scott is my group leader and he took us over the rocks to the beach then we jumped off the pier! It was freezing cold!”

Sarah M – “Today we were climbing across the rocks and once we got to the end, we threw rocks with our non-writing hand and then we walked back to the Kilbowie grounds. Then we jumped off the pier. I was cold like I was inside an iceberg! That was only after one jump! I hung my stuff up in the cloakroom to dry it for tomorrow’s activities. I can’t remember what we are doing. It might be canoeing or skiing.”

Zach – ” We were with Keith in group nine because we are the best! We went to the beach just by the centre and we did some exercises and then we got all our gear to go into the sea with. Then we went onto the pier and jumped in. The water was absolutely freezing. When we took our wellies off they were like swimming pools. It was a great first day! I’m looking forward to everything because it’s the best experience I’ve had in a while.”

Kilbowie!!!

On the 10th December Primary 7 are going to Kilbowie Outdoor Centre in Oban. We are all really excited about it and can not wait to go!!! The class are all looking forward to doing different activities and meeting different people from either Gartcosh or Stepps primary school. We will return back on the 14th December and will tell the school about our time at Kilbowie.

Tea Dance

We organised a fabulous Tea dance to celebrate the end of  our topic on World War 2. We shared our learning with Primaries 1 – 6. There were 4 different stations – Mapping, Air Raid, Evacuation and Food. Before the groups split up we had singing by Aimie O, Aimee A and Imogen. Whilst they were singing the rest of us were teaching the classes how to do the Jitterbug ( a dance from World War 2 ). At the end of the day we all had a great time teaching others about  our fabulous topic!!!
