Kilbowie Thursday – Day 4

Kilbowie Thursday – Day 4

Up and wide awake for our last day of activities here in Kilbowie.  Although some more wide awake than others…..Weather looks dry but cloudy so hoping for another great day.  Photos to follow later we hope!  Please check both P6/7 and P7 blogs as children will probably appear on both.

Here are the girls’ thoughts for the morning room by room.

Room 27 – Emma A, Yasmin, Kayla and Courtney

Yesterday we all did Safari at different times.  The man was called Derek and he was really funny and told us lots of jokes.  He had set traps to try to catch mice and voles and for one group there was a bank vole in one of the traps.  It was only about 2 inches long including the tail and after we had looked at it he set it free.  We met Derek’s “girls” who are a flock of gulls who come when he whistles for them.  He imitates their noises to get them to come to the pitch where he feeds them.  He has been doing it for 9 years.

Today we are looking forward to Gorge Walking and are excited.  It is going to be cold but lots of fun.  The disco is tonight and we can’t wait to put some nice clothes on instead of wet suits and wellies!

Room 26 – Stephanie, Emma C, Kirah

Kayaking was good because it was the first time most of us had ever paddled a boat on the water.  It was quite easy but your arms hurt with all the paddling.  Nightline was fun because you were blindfolded but there were obstacles hanging down and on the ground that you had to get past.  Today we are looking forward to skiing.  Everyone is Gorge Walking at different times today.  We are a bit nervous about it but excited at the same time.  Tonight is the disco and we are so glad that the rumour about HAVING to dance with boys from another school is not true!!

Room 25 – Neve, Alicia, Georgina and Kirsty

Yesterday we all went on safari with an instructor called Derek.  He explained all about the activity and then we had to wear our waterproofs and wellies.  When we went outside we learned how to shoot a bow and arrow with some plants.  We got to see lots of birds that were Derek’s “friends” as he had trained them to come when he whistles.  He feeds them lots of bread and it costs him £60 a month to feed them.

In the afternoon there was canoeing and we canoed out to Heather Island and then Kerrera.  There was a sheepdog on one of the islands that enjoyed playing with us.  Some people went hill climbing yesterday and when we got to the top we could see Kilbowie.  There were ditches of mud and it was a bit messy!

Today we are all gorge walking at different times.  We are both excited and nervous at the same time.

1.30pm – The latest set of group photos have just been uploaded from the children who  had Chris as their instructor.

Kilbowie Day 2

Please see the P6/7 blog for more photos.

Some of P7’s thoughts for this morning!

Kilbowie has had good weather and the scenery is beautiful. I slept well and I am now excited to go skiing. The ski slope is outside my room.   I am wrapped up in all my warm clothes.

Dylan McCaskie

I had a good time yesterday.  The bus journey was long but I enjoyed stopping at The Green Welly.  I really enjoyed my dinner, it was Toad in the Hole.

Nathan McAuley

So far I have enjoyed the activities. I enjoyed jumping in the sea and the airport game. I had an ok sleep and I’m looking forward to rock climbing.

Lewis Baird

I’ve been enjoying myself at Kilbowie.  For my first activity we were completing challenges like walking across the rocks in the water. At night I enjoyed the flight game and playing who wants to be a millionaire.

Neve Coughlin

I have enjoyed myself at Kilbowie so far.  For my first activity we were walking along the rocks at the coastal area.  It was really funny as people were pushing each other in.  Then after, we walked into the sea and a walk around the premises.  Then we collected life jackets and jumped off the pier.  I got a shock when James pushed me in.

Yasmin Chau

I have enjoyed myself at Kilbowie.  For my fist activity we were completing a challenge.   Yesterday we had to cross the water and we had to find the safest way to do it.  I used the wall to help me. Then my group and I went a walk up the hills and when we reached the top we got to roll down them.

Kirsty Kane

I had a good time during my first day.  I enjoyed playing in the games room at night.  I’m sharing a room with Stephanie, Taylor and Emma and we all managed to get a good sleep eventually but at first we were a bit excited because it was our first night.

Kilbowie – Thursday

Today group 4 went skiing.  This afternoon was canoeing and kayaking.  Group 8 went canoeing in the morning with gorge walking in the afternoon.  Both groups have had a fabulous day and are preparing themselves for the disco tonight.  Enjoy the photos!

Group 8 did Canoeing and Gorge walking today, it was the best day ever.  The weather was dry & the sun even came out for a little while.  In canoeing we had to strap 2 canoes together first, then we had to work out how to work together & steer it in the correct direction.  We did really well, we chose Abigail as our captain & she was in charge.  We went over to Heather Island & then we ate our flapjacks on it.  After lunch we went Gorge walking which was another fab activity.  Everyone fell into the water on numerous occasions and it was really fun.  Alexander lost his welly, but Nigel managed to retrieve it.  The water was freezing but it didn’t matter, it was amazing.

Tonight we are getting ready for the disco, which starts at 7pm.  We’re sure that it will be a fabulous end to a wonderful week.

More Kilbowie Wednesday

My group went mountain biking today.  We learned how to use the brakes slowly and then we practised standing up and riding on the bikes.  Standing up was better for going uphill.  My group also did rock climbing.  I liked coming back down best.  We had to hold onto the knot on the rope and the people at the bottom had to walk backwards holding the rope.  I have had a fun day.  I am looking forward to gorge walking tomorrow.  by Jordan B

Today my group went rock climbing and mountain biking.  I fell off the bike when I was mountain biking.  I was going really fast down the hill and I pulled just one brake by mistake so I fell off.  I hurt my elbow but it is okay. I went rock climbing and made it half way to the top and Nigel said I did really well. I was scared at first but then I gained more confidence after a while. I’m looking forward to gorge walking tomorrow. by Jordan Fleming

today our group , group 4, did mountain biking and rock climbing. we got out kit together and found the perfects size of helmet and bike and went outside where we were told to do some little exersises to get used to our bikes. After we went on a little adventure up a mountain and during our trek towards the top we stopped and had some juice and tried some kilbowie energy bars. When at the top we made our way down, it was alot faster than the journey up . on the way down Grace S went over a bump in the ground and landed on her front , her bike ontop. since i was like, the only one behind her i had to get of to remove the bike from ontop of her. She recovered well from her little fall, but didn’t go down the bigger hill. I however , did . It was really fast and and quite scary but when i got to the bottom it was worth it , so fun. on the way down Jordan F went into a wall and fell of and rolled down the hill . Once back at kilbowie we started getting ready for mountain climbing. we got harneses, clips, helmets, and put it all in some rucksacks and got in the minibus. When at our destination we got out and walked to the particular cliff we were cilmbing we unpacked put on all our eqipment and set up. I am looking forward to tomorrow. by Abigail Baird

Our second day went really well because the mountain biking made us push our limits and cycle up the mega mountain.  Some of us went up the climbing mountain too.  This made us push our limits too.  Our instructor Nigel was quite funny.  by Louise

Today we did two different activities.  The first one was a safari.  It was really educational and the instructor was very funny.  He should be a comedian!  The next activity was gorge walking and it was the best thing I have ever done.  We had to get up streams wearing wetsuits.  I fell once when Leah came crashing down towards me.  We also had two stops to jump into the water.  I am missing my mum and dog but will see them on Friday.  by Naomi

Kacey here! I am missing my mum and dad and kind of missing my brother too, which I find strange.  I quite enjoyed rock climbing today and felt really proud when I got to the top and wished my family could have seen me!  This morning I went mountain biking.  I didn’t really like going up the hills but coming down was great.

Today we were gorge walking and we got vwery very wet.  We jumped in from rocks into deeper water and got got soaked.  Some went in my eyes and I think I might have swallowed some!  When we were on safari we went to check some traps but discovered that there were no animals in them.  When we went to the lab we had some funny coversations about sur vival of animals.  by Grace

Kilbowie Wednesday

Our breakfast tidiers for this morning!  More to come later!

Well Wednesday turned out to be quite an eventful day.  1 group went on the Safari in the morning, whilst the other group did Mountain Biking.  Both groups loved their activities… or at least most of them did!  Breige decided that she wanted to have an adventure of her own, I’m sure she will tell you all about it!  by Mrs White

Today I went mountain biking, it was really fun. We all loved it, our instructor was called Nigel.  Firstly, we went into the bike shed and got our helmets and bikes.  When we got our bikes and helmets we set off.  We all went in a line and started peddling, it was hard work but we managed in the end.  We cycled up and down lots of paths and hills, and stopped off  from juice and flapjacks.  The Flapjacks were very nice, and after we went up a very steep hill, following the path back down.  When got back to the centre, I slipped off of my bike onto a Cattle grate.  The bike landed on top of me and my elbow was really sore.  Fortunately it was lunch-time, I ate lunch but it was still really painful.  So Mrs White took me to the hospital to get my arm checked.  I got an x-ray, the good news is that I haven’t broken anything but I do have a Cuff ‘n Collar to wear for a few days.  The hardest thing I think will be trying to get my dress on for the disco tomorrow night!!!  LOL! by Breige Adair

Today was our second day at Kilbowie.  It started off with a early wake up and then we went down for breakfast.  I had rice kirispies.  The first activity of our day was safari with a really funny trainer called Derek.  He told us all about different birds and animals and went outside to try and catch mice and get a close look at some gulls and ravens.  It was very factual and I learned a lot.   The second activity of the day was Gorge Walking.  It will probably be my favourite activity of the experience.  We went 25 minutes away from Kilbowie with Fiona into the countryside.  We walked a bit and then went into the water.  It was not that deep as the water only went up to my waist.  We climbed up rocks and mini waterfalls in freezing water.  I really enjoyed it.  by Charlie

Today was our first full day at Kilbowie. I woke up to the sound of Roar by Katy Perry coming out the speakers. Today we had, in my  opinion, better activities such as mountain biking and rock climbing.  It was so cold went we first out for mountain biking and I fell onto my tummy, but I was fine.  Rock climbing was scary and wet, the rain kept pouring down!!!  Nigel, our trainer was really good and made it look easy.  I got to the top of the rock twice which I am sooo proud of.  I am looking forward to doing canoeing and gorge walking tomorrow.  By Grace Sherry

Today we did Rock climbing and mountain biking.  I was so proud of myself because I got to the top all the rocks we climbed.  I especially enjoyed the mountain biking.  I loved going downhill fast and I didn’t fall once.  Tomorrow we are doing gorge walking and canoeing,  I am looking forward to canoeing the most because it is really fun.  By Helen Bowyer

On Wednesday, my group did mountain biking, then rock climbing.  I really liked the rock climbing, and was so proud of myself when I got to the top of all of the rocks.  The only thing was I felt a little homesick, as I would have loved for my mum and dad to see my achievement, but know they will be very proud of me.  I found the mountain biking tiring, as we had to go up a lot of steep hills, but I am really looking forward to both activities tomorrow.  By Kacey Dunsmore

Today we did an activity called Safari with Derek. We learned about nature and animals. we set traps for mice, but sadly no creatures strolled into the traps. In the afternoon we did GORGE WALKING!!!! which was absolutely amazing.  We drove for 25 minutes to a mountain with lots of cows and sheep, they strolled onto the road and they moved very quickly. We then walked down the jill and went into the gorge, it was freezing! but it was so fun. i slipped a couple of times but didn’t actually fall.  I am looking forward to tomorrow. by Lewis McKay

Today we did gorge walking which was very fun, but was freezing cold.  We got to do loads of fun stuff, like jumping into the water, but once I fell in and started floating downstream, which was a bit scary.  Jack had to save me a few times and I held onto Scott’s leg.  Then I started to fall down again, but this time I held onto a rock.  I am so looking forward to learning to ski tomorrow.  by Joshua Russell.

Today my group did gorge walking and it was great.  At first it was a little boring, as we had to take a 25 mins minibus journey, but when we got there it looked great from the start.  We decided that we, as a group were going to jump into a giant puddle, which was actually  really deep, in fact it was up to my chest.  After that we got into the water, after about 20 seconds Scott Menzies fell in & began floating down river.  We kept going and eventually came to a strong current with a little waterfall.  We had to climb up the waterfall & continue which was very fun.  Tomorrow I can’t wait to go canoeing.  by Aaron Payne

So today I did Gorge walking, which was amazing.  I loved how we had to walk through the rocks, which had water coming through.  I also loved jumping off the ledges and walking with my friends.  I helped Joshua, as he kept on falling and sliding around.  Mrs Rae jumped off one of the ledges at the end and that was very funny.  Overall I really enjoyed myself.

by Jack Buchanan(Jack re-enacted some of this for Mrs White & it was really funny ) by Mrs White

Today we did Mountain biking and we went up to one of the biggest hills, called the Mega hill.  Most of us liked it, including me, but some of us didn’t.  We learned how to use our gears as well as an easier way to use our brakes.  Climbing was also really good fun, but a little scary.  we had to wear helmets and use harnesses to attach to the rope to climb rocks.  We all had to work as a team and I enjoyed learning how to climb.  By Alexander Martin

Today we enjoyed doing gorge walking and the safari walk.  Gorge walking was freezing but the best experience so far.  I really liked jumping off the ledges into the freezing water.  I also loved seeing my friends fall in.  Safari was also great, our trainer was called Derek and he was really funny.  I learned lots of new facts about wildlife.  I am looking forward to skiing and canoeing tomorrow. by Scott Menzies

My group did Gorge walking today.  It was fun, we all got soaking wet and the wet suits were very uncomfortable.  We all made it in the water up to the rocks but then a few of us started slipping & falling into the stream.  This was really funny, I laughed a lot.  I got loads of water down the back of my neck and belly flopped into the water.  Tomorrow I am really excited to try skiing, but know that I am going to fall a lot.  by Nico Sbragia (I am very good at sweeping the floor now!!!)

Kilbowie – Tuesday

Today I did rock climbing. My instructor was called Fiona. I enjoyed climbing the rocks and scaling it. It was really scary because I have a big fear of heights but I was relieved when I finished. When I got to the top there was a big clump of grass where I got stuck for 5 minutes but I am smiling about it now! I am really looking forward to gorge walking tomorrow. By Jack

Today we arrived at Kilbowie and we found out who we are in a room with.  I am in a room with Jack, Aaron and Alex.  The first activity we did today was rock climbing.  It was really fun as we climbed three different cliffs.  The first one was not so high and was not that steep.  The next cliff was steeper and higher then we practised working in a team.  Someone climbed up and then abseiled down and everyone else had to work the rope so that the climber could move.  I just played football outside with Lewis and soon we will be having dinner.  Tommorow I am looking forward to the gorge walking with Derek. by Charlie

We went rock climbing today which was relly fun.  We met our instructor who is called Fiona.  She is very good at rock climbing and helped us a lot.  We got our rooms and I am enjoying being with different people.  We have unpacked and we are talking to each other a lot.  I am looking forward to gorge walking tomorrow and that’s it for now.  by Lewis

Today my group went on safari.  We saw mice, voles and the instructor showed us the friendly traps he uses to catch them.  He releases them after we have seen them.  SOmetimes he tags them so he can see if he has caught them before.  He told us stuff about deer.  We saw deer antlers.  He told us that male reindeer lose their antlers in November and female reindeer lose them inMarch.  So all Santa’s reindeer must be female!  I am looking forward to gorge walking and rock climbing.   by Jordan

My first activity was rock climbing.  We started with a small cliff and then we went up to a bigger one which was a bit harder.  We then went up to one that was even harder but we were all attached together.   We helped to balance each other and when one person was coming down we had to walk backwards to stop them from falling.  I am looking the nightline and gorge walking tomorrow.  by Leah

I was in the safari group today and it could have been more exciting but I am looking forward to the crystal maze as it sounds like fun.  by Louise

Today we arrived at Kilbowie.  We got split into our groups and told who we were in a room with.  My group went rock climbing and it was fun but sometimes we had to wait on other people.  After rock climbing we went to hte games room which has table tennis, table football, football and basketball. by Scott

We have done some tasks today.  The first task was the safari and the instructor was called Derek.  I didn’t enjoy that task so much.  We have done a task tonight where we had to run round the outside of the building to find different answers.  I enjoyed finding the answers.  It was raining so I got wet.  Now we are going to have supper and then it is bedtime. by Jordan B
