Our week

Wow, what a week…we’ve been busy bees in P1.

At the start of the week we planted seeds as part of our living things topic.  We learned what the seeds would need to survive and wrote about it.  We know  that the seeds will need water, light and air to grow and survive.  We also thought they would need our love and care!

we also started learning about symmetry in maths.  We made symmetrical butterflies for our living things wall by painting one wing of the butterfly then folding it over to make the other wing exactly the same.  Symmetry is like matching only the other way round.  The two sides are the same but one will be back to front of the other.  We also made symmetry patterns with pegs and with lots of art materials.

At the end of the week we were printing with the bottom of bottles.  We made lovely spring blossoms using beautiful spring colours.  They are up in our classroom and it looks very spring like!

this morning we watched the eclipse with P1/2.  It looked like the sun was actually the moon.  It looked like it was night time but it wasn’t!  We then used pastels to draw pictures of the eclipse!

Smelly play dough

Today we did another experiment.  We made play dough but each group made their play dough smell different.  It is important when doing an experiment that we only change one thing.  Today we changed the smell.

one group made mint smelling play dough. One group added cinnamon to change the smell and the last group made lemon smelling play dough.

The smells were not strong but we could tell the difference.

The cinnamon one smelled strongest.

Taste

Today we were learning about different tastes.  The four different tastes are sour, sweet, salty and bitter.

first we tried sour.  We had lemon, grapefruit, sour skittles and sour rainbow belts.  Sour made our faces laugh and scrunch up.  We liked the sour sweeties but not the lemon or grapefruit.

We tasted crisps with no salt and crisps with salt.  We liked the crisps with salt best.

For bitter we had some dark chocolate.  Some of us liked it and some thought it was just ok!

For sweet we ate some honey which was tasty.  We also had some normal milk chocolate.

We voted for what flavour was our favourite:

Sour – 8

imageSalty – 3

Bitter – 4

Sweet – 4

We made some funny faces when we were tasting today!!

Our trip to the science centre

On our school trip we went to the science centre in Glasgow. We are sorry it’s taken a week to blog but we had so many photos to look through!

Here are some of our comments from when we got back.

Lewis and Marcus – we really enjoyed seeing the show about the stars and the sky.

Ethan – we saw some pictures that the stars make in the sky.

Erin – the North Star is not the brightest star.

Daryll – I liked the pirate ship best.

Aaron – my favourite thing was the big bubble machine.

Oliver – I liked the tornado.

Katie and Adam – we had lots of fun.

Evie – running on the big wheel was my favourite.

Riley – we saw Pegasus in the stars.

Have a look at just some of our pictures!

A Super Spring Day

Today we went on a walk outside to find signs of Spring.

When we first went outside we felt the air was cool but the sun was shining and made our heads and backs feel warm.  We saw some buds on the bushes ready to come out.

Rhys saw birds and heard them chirping.  Caiden saw some flowers growing in the garden.  They were daffodils.  Atholl saw a rabbit hole but didn’t see any rabbits in it.

For maths we learned about symmetry and made some lovely symmetrical Spring flowers.

We made some Spring pictures today.  We painted the sky and the grass.  Then we used brown paint to paint the trunk and branches.  We then used pink paint and our fingers to paint the pink blossom on our Spring trees.

Look at the pictures of our fabulous Spring day!
