A Super Spring Day

Today we went on a walk outside to find signs of Spring.

When we first went outside we felt the air was cool but the sun was shining and made our heads and backs feel warm.  We saw some buds on the bushes ready to come out.

Rhys saw birds and heard them chirping.  Caiden saw some flowers growing in the garden.  They were daffodils.  Atholl saw a rabbit hole but didn’t see any rabbits in it.

For maths we learned about symmetry and made some lovely symmetrical Spring flowers.

We made some Spring pictures today.  We painted the sky and the grass.  Then we used brown paint to paint the trunk and branches.  We then used pink paint and our fingers to paint the pink blossom on our Spring trees.

Look at the pictures of our fabulous Spring day!

Adding and taking away

We have been learning how to add and take away.

Ryan says that adding used to be a bit tricky but it is easy now.  Rhys knows that when you add bigger numbers together you will get a bigger answer.  Rhys also thought that taking away was tricky to start with but it is better now.

Erin knows that when you take away you end up with a smaller number than you started with.

We have been learning our double sums and have a doubles rhyme to share with you.

Scotland and Scottish Monsters Topic

This post was spoken by Andrew and typed by Mrs Rae.
We made tartan on the iPads. We used the Doodle Buddy app.
We learned about Nessie and we drew Nessie on a piece of paper.
We learned about haggis. Haggis tastes like sausages and smells like sausages too!
We learned about Ghillie Dhus and Kelpies as well.
For homework we made models of Scottish monsters and fairies. Here are some photos.

3D shapes

We have been learning about 3D shapes.
The shapes we know are:
cylinder
cuboid
cone
cube

Caiden knows that a cylinder has 2 faces that are circles.
Amy knows that all the faces on a cube are square.
Niamh knows that a cone has 1 face that is a circle.
Erin knows that a cone has one point.
Emma knows that a cone has 2 faces. One is flat and one is curved.
Ewan knows that a cylinder can roll because it has one curved face. Cylinders also have 2 circle shaped faces, one at each end.

Today we went on a 3D shape walk outside to see what shapes we could see. Have a look at our photos.

Our Wintery Day

Yesterday we had a wintery day in Primary 1. When we came in to school we went straight back out again to have a look for signs of winter.
This is what we saw: bare trees with no leaves, icy bits on the ground, red berries on bushes and the sun was low down in the sky. Our skin felt cold when we went out of the door into the playground.
We drew winter pictures with black pen when we came in and we wrote a sentence about winter. Then we painted, cut and stuck to make a winter tree picture.

Look at our photos to see the fun we had.

Primary 1 Christmas Card Shop

This is how we made our cards.  First we drew a picture.  Then we outlined it in black pen.  After that we coloured the picture in using oil pastels.  We wrote our names with black pen.  Mrs Rae scanned our pictures and names.  Then we used the computer to put our cards together.

We hope you like them and want to buy some.  We are looking forward to recieving your orders soon.

from Primary 1

PS – We would love it if you would like to leave a comment to tell us what you think of our hard work!

Our 2D shape hunt

We have been learning about 2 D shapes.

Some of the shapes we know are – circle, square, triangle and rectangle.

Callum knows that a square has 4 sides which are all the same length.
Ewan knows that a triangle has 3 points and 3 sides which are all straight.
Rebecca knows that a circle is round and has no points.
Atholl knows that a rectangle has 4 straight sides and 4 points.
Brielle knows that a circle has one curved edge.

Today we went on a shape hunt around the school and took pictures of what we saw. We are sure you will agree that we were super shape hunters!!
