First Week Back

We hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas break, we are all doing hard work now that we are back in school.

Maths:

Logan “This week we have been learning about time”.

Oscar “We have been learning about all the days of the week.”

Charlie “We read the ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar, he was so fat because he ate so much food every day.”

Arran “We learned a song to help us remember all the days of the week.”

Kirstyn “The days of the week are- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.”


Literacy:

Rosie “We learned the sound v”

Emilia “Vase starts with v, so does van.”

Ivy “We learned j, Jamie starts with j.”

Jamie “We also were writing about our holidays, I was writing all by myself.”

Primary 1 have had a great first week back at school.

Little Owl’s Egg

This week primary 1a have been reading “Little Owl’s Egg” as part of  book bug.

Robbi “We found an egg in our class on Tuesday, there was a note from little owl. Little owl told us he found an egg and didn’t know who it belonged to, so we had to help him work it out.”

Jamie “We made some found posters so that whoever lost their egg new where to find it, we stuck them up all around the school.”

Oscar “The next day we came in from break and we saw the egg box with a letter on it.”

Arran “The letter was all broken up because it was burnt. The letter was from a dragon!”

Ruaridh “The egg hatched when we came in from break, it had flown away with his mummy and daddy dragon, all it left behind was a hatched egg!”

Primary 1a were writing letters, making posters, fixing mixed up sentences and writing some super sentences! We had lots of fun and we are looking forward to seeing what our book will be next week!

 

Maths

Primary 1 have been working hard on our number skills this week. We have been learning the numbers 11 and 12. In big maths we have been practising our learn-it’s, 1+1=2 and 2+2=4. We have also been practising counting to and back from 10. As a challenge some of us have even been doing our numbers up to 20! Here we are hard at work.

Children in Need

Today is children in need.

Robbi “We all dressed up to help raise money for children in need.”

We got to do lots of nice activities to help raise money and have some fun.

Rory “Robbi and I got to go and take pictures in the photo booth because we had matching clothes, it was lots of fun.”

Kirstyn “We got to decorate a cake and then eat it, I really liked it.”

 

We also were lucky enough to have some special visitors.

Aarnav “Zoo lab came and brought some animals like a rat, a tortoise and a frog.”

Ivy “We have been learning all about day and night, we found out that frogs are awake at night and they sleep during the day.”

Logan “Being awake at night is called being nocturnal.”

We have had lots of fun this week and we hope we have raised lots of money for children in need.

Primary 1a went on a shape hunt.

Arran “We were looking for lots of shapes.”

Oscar “We find shapes everywhere.”

Arnav “We were hunting for shapes that have sides, we saw some 2D shapes.”

Emilia “We found lots of circles.”

Ivy “We found it tricky to find triangles.”

Literacy

Oscar “We have also been learning a new letter, we learned ‘w’ and ‘h’ this week.

Jamie “Watch starts with ‘w’ and hippo starts with ‘h’.

Ruaridh “We learned our common words too, his, went and was”.

Robbi “We learned a 4 letter word this week!”

Rosie “In writing we wrote spooky stories about Halloween.”

 

Our learning this week

Primary 1a have been learning all about shape this week. 

Kaden ‘ We have been building trains and rockets using shapes.”

Emilia “We have been learning numbers too, our number of the week is 9”.

Arran “We were using magnets to build a big square, Aarnav was helping me.”

Rory “We have been learning about triangles, stars, squares and rectangles.”

Jamie “I built a boat out of shapes, I used two triangles and a rectangle.”

 

This week we also had our primary 1 committee.

Ruaridh “We were learning all school, we went on a hunt to find things in school.”

Oscar “We found teachers on our hunt”.

Eilidh “I saw the other classes and teachers, one class didn’t have anyone in it. Primary 6 and 7 have their classrooms outside in the playground.

Kacey “We even found rabbits in the school garden.”

Visits

On Monday we had a special day because we went on a visit to Chryston high school’s library.

We met a super author called Meg Mclaren.

Aarnav “We went to see an author who told us a story about a magician bunny!”

Arran “We also read a detective story, it was my favourite.”

Ruaridh “We turned a man into a rabbit by using our magic powers, he had a rabbit tail it was funny.”

Kirstyn “It was really funny because the man had a pen moustache.”

Ivy “My favourite part was reading the story about the rabbit magician.”

 

 

On Thursday we had a super morning because we got to go all the way to the church.

Eilidh “Yesterday we went to the church to sing some songs.”

Kade “We walked to the church, it was quite long.”

Logan “My partner was Ruaridh I liked walking to the church, and I loved seeing my gran and mum at the church.”

Robbi “We sang a song about conkers at the church, I liked it.”

Ruaridh “We were singing vegetables songs too.”

Cooking

This week primary 1a have been cooking.

Arran “We were making yogurt”.

Rosie “We put fruit in our yogurt”.

Aarnav “We had to slice a banana”

Oscar “We had to a cut with a knife and be careful not to cut our skin”.

Robbie “we got to eat our yogurt but I didn’t like it”.

Reece “We had to wear an apron so we didn’t get messy”.

Kade “I picked 3 bits of fruits, strawberry, banana and apple for the yogurt”.

We also had a go at some new apps on the ipad. We had lot of fun practising our counting.
