Highland Games

On Thursday all primary 1 and 2’s held our very own Highland games. We have been working on our movement skills in P.E to practise for each event.

In the hall we all took part in the sheaf toss, the caber toss, the wellie toss and the relay race.  We created shields to show which clan we were in. We were all very enthusiastic cheering on our clansmen.

People Who Help Us In An Emergency

Today we have been doing lots of different activities to explore the different people who might help us in an emergency.  We enjoyed role play in the imaginitive area, writing using our word mats, turning the beebots into emergency vehicles and working with the playdoh to create some of the things our emergency services need.

Leah – I wrote sentences at the writing area using the word paramedic.  I read my sentence to Mrs Noble.

Charlotte – I was matching all the parts to make the people who help us.

Lilly – I used the ambulance beebot to get to the sick person quickly.

Mason – I dressed up as a policeman and I had a radio.

Cassey – I used the playdoh to make a very long hose for the fire engine.

Ralfy Rabbit Book Thief!

Yesterday after playtime we noticed that our library was a mess.  When we tidied up we found carrots and a letter with a carrot on it. The letter said that Ralfy Rabbit had come to our library and had taken one of our favourite books, the Gruffalo! We could not believe it.

We made wanted posters and put them up around the school to ask everyone to be on the lookout for him.

We decided to go to the library today so that we could write to Ralfy about it.  When we were there we found another letter with a special package.  It was our stolen book.  In his letter Ralfy said sorry for taking our book and he said that now he knows about the library he won’t take any more books again.

We enjoyed going to the library and we are happy that we have got our favourite story back in our library.

Shape

We started by learning about 2D shapes.  We learned that 2D shapes are flat. We went on a shape hunt around the school.  We found lots of different shapes. We made pictures using 2D shapes and glue.

Next we had to learn about 3D shapes. These are shapes that are not flat they are solid. We worked as a team to see which 3D shapes rolled and then we sorted them. We used our 3D shapes to print a picture using paint.

Alfie – A cylinder is a 3D shape.

Nieve – I made a sphere with the playdoh.

Kobi – I used the 2D polygons to make lots of 3D shapes.

Lucy – At the playdoh I made a pyramid.

We have all enjoyed learning about shape!

Fruit Smoothies

We have been busy preparing more healthy snacks today.  We made fruit smoothies using different fruits.  We had to remember what to do to get ready to work with food so that we didn’t spread germs.

We used milk, yoghurt to start our smoothies but each group chose different fruits to put in.  We could choose from banana, strawberries, apple, raspberries and blueberries. We put everything into the blender to make them into drinks.

We noticed that each group had different coloured smoothies because they used different fruits.

Olivia C – The smoothies were very very nice and they had all sorts of fruit in them.

Millie – My group used banana, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries in ours and I really liked it.

Kiara – I liked when i pressed the button to whizz it all up.

Kelsie – I liked getting to choose the fruit that we put in.

Leah – The smoothy was very nice.

Fruit Kebabs

Today we were making fruit kebabs. We learned that before we started cooking we had to wash our hands, put on our aprons, roll up our sleeves and tie back long hair.

We needed to chop up the strawberries, oranges, grapes and bananas. We learned to use the claw and bridge technique to chop them safely.

We had to put the fruit onto a scewer to make them into kebabs. We had to be careful not to get jagged by the sharp end.

The best thing we did today was eating our kebabs.

Charlotte – I learned that I like oranges.

Alfie – My favourite was the banana.

Kobi – I liked the oranges the best.

Nieve – I like the strawberries the best.

Harrison – I liked the strawberries the best.

Mrs. Noble is really proud of all of us because everyone had a try!

Kelsie – I used paint to make a colour pattern of red, blue, yellow, red, blue, yellow.

Lucy – I used the paint with red, blue and yellow to make a repeating pattern.

Leah – We used bears to make repeating pattern.  We had to think about the colour and the size.

Olivia C – We had fun making patterns with the paint.

Harrison – I used the beads and the string to make a shape pattern.

Kyle – We used the smartboard to match pattern it was fun.

Amelie – It was good fun leaning with the bears.  We had to be careful with the size to make the patterns.

Kobi – My group worked hard with the jigsaws to match the patterns.  This was a bit tricky.

Olivia D – We made patterns with dots of paint.

Mason – I made a pattern with the string.  It went round then square, round then square.

Alfie – I made a pattern with circles, squares and a piece that looked like a roof, it was good fun.

A Very Special Visitor

We have been learning about different ways that babies are welcomed all around the world.  Today we had a very special visit from Mrs MacDonald and baby Amy.  Mrs MacDonald is a teacher at the school who is on maternity leave at the moment.

Mrs MacDonald told us about how she welcomed baby Amy.  She showed us lots of the things she needs to have to look after the baby.  We asked her lots of questions and learned lots.

It was lovely to meet Mrs MacDonald and baby Amy.  We want to say a big thank you to them for visiting our classroom!

A Visit To The Co-Op

Today P1 and P1/2 went on a local walk to the co-op. We had to walk to get there. We had to walk past the park, the butchers and lots of people. We were going to the co-op to see our Halloween Artwork.

When we got there we had to look carefully to find them. P1 found their bats on the wall and P1/2 found their skeletons on the wall behind the till.

The manager came to speak to us. She said she is coming into the school with some prizes to give out. She has 3 prizes to give out for the artwork the school has done.

We enjoyed going to the co-op. We were happy to see our artwork and it was exciting.

Halloween Artwork

We have been very busy getting ready for Halloween in P1. We used our cutting and painting skills to create spooky bat paintings. We also designed colourful Halloween lanterns. We had to be very careful with our cutting out. Our classroom looks amazing and some of our artwork is even up in the local shop.
