Pedagoo Friday – Look Out Sir Alan Sugar!

Never mind  The Apprentice! Sir Alan Sugar needs to look out for our S1 pupils with their fantastic business minds and tenacious work ethic! Mrs Chalmers’ S1 class have been working for weeks on creating their own toy including design, manufacturing, marketing and publicity! They pitched their products to a panel including Mr Scott, Mrs Burton and Mr Campbell who were mightily impressed and did not revel in the hard task of choosing a winner.

CMFK created a fab night light!

MCESFK created a toy car.

Best Group Award went to the girls for their turtle game – complete with handmade turtles! (Miss Gilligan thinks they were robbed – handmade turtles?! WINNER!)

Overall winners were the Bueno Group for their ‘Night Light Pillow’ – now holding pride of place at the front of Mrs Chalmers’ room. Judges were impressed with not only their idea and execution but their marketing and pitch showing a fantastic use of persuasive devices! Bueno, girls! (See what I did there?)

“You can’t lose if you don’t play the game…” – Trip to Glasgow’s Theatre Royal

S2 and S3 enjoyed a trip to Glasgow’s Theatre Royal to see the Royal Shakespeare Company’s wonderful version of the classic tale of young love (or gang story, depending on your point of view…). It was many of our young people’s first experience of live theatre and they were delighted by the wonderful and powerful performances. Tickets were being taken home as souvenirs for memory boxes. They were impeccably behaved. Miss Robertson may even have had a tear in her eye at the end but sssshhh, don’t ruin her rep! đŸ™‚

We celebrated Pi Day in the English and Media department with some mathematical based imaginative writing. Pupil were tasked with writing a story in three parts telling the story of Sir Circumference – part one had to have three sentences, part two had to have one sentence and part three had to have four sentences. Sounds easy, right? Come and ask our S1 how easy it was…

Horror Trailer Premiere Party

As part of their course, the Media class of 2018-19 were given an assignment to create a trailer for a horror film. They researched a variety of horror film trailers, created their own storylines for their horror films, acted, operated cameras, wrote scripts, scouted locations, filmed and edited their own trailer. We rolled out the red carpet, dusted of the ballgowns and tuxedos and put the champagne on ice in celebration. Coatbridge High School’s English and Media department had a premiere party for pupils, friends and families to view the fabulous work. It was a lovely night – great to see so many parents and guardians in attendance. It was great for parents and guardians to see what pupils actually do as part of their coursework and share their successes. We cannot wait until our next event!
