S1 Storyteller Group

S1 Storytellers have been working with celebrated storyteller, Bea Ferguson, for the past six months to develop their confidence in public speaking. They have learnt stories from around the world and closer to home. Some have even researched their own family stories about relatives who have lived fascinating lives. They are now ready to showcase their stories at a Storytelling Show on Thursday 30th May (1:45-2.55pm). The event will be held in the school library. The storytelling group would appreciate the support of friends and family. Come along and enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake whilst experiencing the magic of storytelling.

Please contact Mr MacKay (English Dept.) if you have any questions about the event (01236 794848).

Pedagoo Friday – Look Out Sir Alan Sugar!

Never mind  The Apprentice! Sir Alan Sugar needs to look out for our S1 pupils with their fantastic business minds and tenacious work ethic! Mrs Chalmers’ S1 class have been working for weeks on creating their own toy including design, manufacturing, marketing and publicity! They pitched their products to a panel including Mr Scott, Mrs Burton and Mr Campbell who were mightily impressed and did not revel in the hard task of choosing a winner.

Overall winners were the Bueno Group for their ‘Night Light Pillow’ – now holding pride of place at the front of Mrs Chalmers’ room. Judges were impressed with not only their idea and execution but their marketing and pitch showing a fantastic use of persuasive devices! Bueno, girls! (See what I did there?)

Pupil were tasked with writing a story in three parts telling the story of Sir Circumference – part one had to have three sentences, part two had to have one sentence and part three had to have four sentences. Sounds easy, right? Come and ask our S1 how easy it was…

Winners were:

3rd Place: Sienna Reid

2nd Place: Jamie McLelland

1st Place: Leah Weston

Well done, guys!

Annual S1 Panto Trip

Our traditional S1 panto outing to a non-traditional panto took place on Tuesday 18th December. Once again, Mrs Robertson managed the incredible feat of getting 90 S1 pupils safely to Glasgow (and back again, of course!) Mrs Robertson and Mrs Chalmers were most impressed with the impeccable behaviour and the response from the pupils. The Tron Theatre always push boundaries with their modern interpretation of traditional pantos and reflect issues in the world today. It is always so heartening to see our young people so open-minded to and supportive of difference – never lose this!
