Brannock LCSC Facilities

Welcome to our virtual photographic tour of the Language and Communication Support Centre (LCSC) at Brannock High School.

Our LCSC has developed significantly over the last 12 years. Initially consisting of two small rooms and called the “Chit Chat Room”, the LCSC had capacity for less than ten pupils.

In 2010, the LCSC was re-designed and two Maths areas were combined to become the Support Centre. Now with capacity for many more pupils, we have our own classroom, kitchen, social area, office space and sensory room. This allows our pupils to have a safe and quiet space to go to, as well as a working centre allowing us to deliver a flexible curriculum and work with our partner agencies in our own space.

Some of the facilities we have include:

The Social Area

The Social Area is the main area of the LCSC and is used daily by our pupils. At social times, our pupils use this before the school day starts, intervals and lunchtimes. Here, our pupils can read, draw, play chess or other board games, chat to their friends or some pupils bring in their DS consoles to play as well. This area is also sometimes used for homework catch up or tests, when you need a bit of peace and quiet!

The Kitchen/Dining Area

Next to the social area, we have our own kitchen where pupils and staff can eat and drink. This area has a dining table. It also has a fridge and a freezer where you can store your lunch, plenty of cupboards with lots of cooking and baking materials inside them, a kettle, a toaster, an oven and a microwave!  Whilst pupils tend to bring their lunch with them, or use the canteen, they can also make use of these items under supervision from staff. There is also a sink area for washing up.

Pupils are also given opportunities, mainly in Core Skills to develop their cooking and baking skills in this area and this year, pupils have been making Mother’s Day Truffles, Easter Eggs, cookies, pasta and many other delicious meals.

The Sensory Room

Our pupils really enjoy this room as it is an area for them to relax and de-stress. If they are feeling unhappy, upset or anxious, they can ask for some time in the Quiet Room. In here, there is soft seating, soothing music and lighting and sensory/relaxation items such as books, jigsaws, fiddle toys and headphones . This room has been designed specifically for relaxation and each pupil is allowed to access this room when they need it.

The Classroom

This classroom is only used by pupils in the Language and Communication Department. It has desks and chairs, a computer suite and a SMART board. Here you might catch up on your homework, sit a test or work with a teacher in Core Skills. There are plenty of materials and resources in this classroom to help you develop your reading and writing skills. The pupils are also allowed to use this room at lunchtime to make use of the computers or use the SMART Board to play the Wii! You may also work with one of our partner agencies in this room.

The Garden

We have an outdoor area which is used for Outdoor Learning, fun activities and de-stress time. Our pupils and staff can access the garden when in need and we find that during the nicer weather, it is a nice place to socialise with your friends. Our pupils have also planted some plants and vegetables in this area too!

We also have an office space where our staff work on admin duties and a Meeting Room where pupils can meet with staff, receive one-to-one mentoring, meet with agencies and sit classroom tests and exams.
