ASDAN North Lanarkshire Challenge Award
As part of the Resilience Group young people completed their North Lanarkshire Challenge Award. Benefits to the participants can be: increased self-belief and confidence; an opportunity to work as part of a team; developing new skills; a sense of personal achievement and working with others to benefit the community. So far this year 60 young people have completed the NL Challenge. The award is a junior version on Duke of Edinburgh. The NLC Award is validated by ASDAN and recognises the achievements of young people in four sections;
- Service
- Physical
- Skills
- Adventure
Each section requires a specific number of hour’s participation: Sapphire, 8 hours; Emerald, 10 hours; Ruby, 12 hours; and the final Challenge stage Dia
mond, 15 hours. Each level also includes an adventure walk increasing in distance as the participant progresses through the stages.
The Resilience group chose cooking as their skill this year and the St Andrews Hospice as their Service sections.
