Starting Balmalloch Primary School

Please contact Adele in our Nursery for any information – nlparkera@northlan.org.uk

Transition into Primary one takes place throughout a child’s pre school year. We have devised a transition calendar where every month the children participate in a transition activity:-

All other feeder nurseries are visited by a member of the Nursery/School Management Team in April or May.

You can view our Transition Sway which has lots of important information for children starting Balmalloch Primary School in August 2024 –

Starting Kilsyth Academy

Kilsyth Academy

Pupils normally transferred between the ages of 11½ and 12½, so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least 4 years of secondary education. Parents will be informed of the school arrangements no later than the December of the year preceding the date of transfer at the start of the new session. Normally pupils from Balmalloch Primary continue to:

Kilsyth Academy, Balmalloch Road, Kilsyth Tel. no.: 01236 632057

We enjoy a good relationship with the staff of Kilsyth Academy and both ourselves and Kilsyth Academy aim to make the transition from primary to secondary a simple process for our pupils e.g.

  • In November Kilsyth Academy holds a meeting for the parents of pupils transferring there in August. This is usually open to Primary 5-7 children.
  • Visits to Kilsyth Academy by our P7 pupils in June to follow a sample S1 timetable for 3 days and meet some of the staff.
  • Throughout the year Academy staff visit Balmalloch Primary and our pupils enjoy meeting staff from a variety of departments.

This is an example of previous Transition events and processes for moving on to Kilsyth Academy –

In September, the Pupil Captaincy Team from Kilsyth Academy visit our school to elect our Pupil Representatives (Captain, Vice-Captain and Prefect). They read the completed application forms and hear the speeches/presentations from our P7 pupils who have applied for the role of Captain, Vice-Captain and Prefect.

The Pupil Captaincy Team from Kilsyth Academy also link up with some of our P7 pupils as part of our Community Pupils Partnership Team.
