We had a fantastic day in the forest; jumping off mud piles, making leaf angels, throwing leaves into the air and even toasting marshmallows by our fire.

Primary 5 have been learning about different things that you can do to materials to change them. We learned that dissolving means a solid can mix with a liquid and become a solution. We carried out an experiment to find out what happens to things when they dissolve. Here are our results:
Primary 4 have been making models of the three layers of human skin; subcutaneous fat, the dermis and the epidermis.
Pupils worked together in groups to design the structure of their model and decide which materials they would use in order to make it. Once their models were completed, every pupil in the class managed to earn some gems for their group by naming all the features of the skin their model represented. Well done P4!
Primary 4 were exploring our five basic tastes today: sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami. We tasted examples of each and tried to mark them on a taste map of the tongue. We soon realised that this was a very difficult thing to do because our taste buds can detect different tastes all over our tongue and not just in certain places! Primary 4 really enjoyed their taste testing session, although from the pictures it’s clear that they enjoyed some tastes far more than others!
Today in Primary 5/6 we were all scientists and were testing what metals are attracted to magnets. We had some items to test out and found out that copper and iron are attracted to magnets. We had great fun exploring the magnetic force!
Primary 2 have been learning all about the importance of Road Safety. We had a visit from a very special Alien yesterday Ziggy. We told Ziggy all about our topic and took him on a tour of Balmalloch Primary. It was so much fun! We also had
road safety stations set up. These included traffic lights, a zebra crossing and road works. Next week we are going on an Environmental walk to consolidate all of our learning. We will remember to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN!!!!
Primary 4 gave everyone a treat with their fantastic assembly today. Our theme was ‘Superheroes’; not just the kind with super powers but our police officers, doctors, nurses, fire fighters, scientists and soldiers who work so hard every day to look after us.
Well done Primary 4! After seeing your wonderful performance the whole school knows that you really are SUPERHEROES!!!!
Primary 5 have been creating some new and wonderful things today! Some of us used instructions to help and some of us made up our own designs.
