National 4 & 5 Upper School

Pupils who choose to continue to further their expertise in Modern Studies into S5 and S6 will embark upon either a Higher or National 4/5 course.

S5/6 pupils will undertake the following units :

• Political Parties in the UK
• The Powers of the PM and Cabinet
• The Houses of Parliament
• Pressure Groups
• The influence of the Media

Social Issues in the UK – Social Inequality

• Poverty and Social Exclusion
• Causes of Poverty
• Gender and Race Inequalities
• Consequences of Poverty
• Groups that help tackle Poverty

International Issues – World Power: The USA

• The People of the USA
• The Immigration Debate
• Social and Economic Inequalities
• The US Political System
• Political parties in the USA
• How can American citizens participate in Politics?

All pupils will also be expected to complete a National 5 Assignment OR National 4 Added Value Unit to achieve a course award.
