S1

First year pupils will be introduced to Geography through two topics:

  1. What is Geography?
  2. Brazil.

What is Geography?

Pupils will be introduced to the Geography course, working their way through a variety of exciting topics. From flags of the world to map skills, by the end of the unit pupils will have a better idea of what is involved in the study of Geography and be experts in grid references, countries and capital cities, using an atlas, scale and compass points. At the end of the unit pupils will sit a What is Geography? test.

Brazil

The second topic ‘Brazil’ allows pupils to explore the idea of what it would be like to live in this South American country. Pupils discover the mixed cultures and lifestyles of those living in Brazil, deforestation, climate and have the opportunity to build their own favela! Lastly, pupils are taught about life in rainforest and have the opportunity to consolidate this knowledge by visiting Amazonia Rainforest Adventure to experience real life rainforest conditions and animals.
