First year pupils will be introduced to History through the investigation of two interesting and varied units. These will provide pupils with the opportunity to develop a basic understanding and knowledge of the subject.
Scotland Through Time
This course has been designed to give pupils a broad and general knowledge of the History Scotland. The unit will introduce pupils to some of the most famous and interesting people in Scotland’s History. Pupils will investigate and describe the lives of Kenneth MacAlpin (Scotland’s first king), William Wallace, Robert Bruce and the tragic life of Mary Queen of Scots. They will also learn to explain how the lives of these individuals impacted upon the History of Scotland.
The Romans
This course will introduce pupils to aspects of life in Ancient Rome and its empire. Pupils will be expected to investigate and explain the reasons behind factors such as Rome’s rise to greatness and why the Roman army was so successful in battle. They will also be able to describe what happened when the Romans invaded Scotland; what everyday life was like for ancient Romans 2,000 years ago and what the Romans liked to do in their spare time (mostly violent things!).
