Room 6 Burns Supper

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Last week Room 6 completed their interdisciplinary topic on Burns by having a Burns Supper and Scottish food tasting session.

The children tasted a range of Scottish foods including Haggis, neeps and tatties, tablet, shortbread, oatcakes and smoked salmon all washed down with a wee dram (of Irn Bru). The children recorded which of the foods they enjoyed and those they disliked. There was singing, dancing and a cheers to Robert Burns!

Learning in Room 6!

This week we have had so much fun learning our spelling and phonics words. We used paint to practice fine motor skills and spell at the same time.

In Maths we have been learning number bonds and counting within 100. We used lots of active games and hands on practice to improve our skills.

In IDL we were researching the people who live in the Rainforest and found out that they often paint their faces or bodies during celebrations. This inspired us to make our own masks in Art.

Room 6 Learning Update!

We have been learning all about Robert Burns in preparation for Burns Day on the 25th January. We have been learning some poems and songs and recorded our early practice of Auld Lang Syne. A special mention to Ellie M Scott and Jack Montgomery who did outstanding singing during these lessons.

Due to lots of other school events we took our gym lesson back to the classroom and did some good old fashioned circuit training. With a combination of Jumping Jacks, Lunges, Sit Ups and Aerobics we are continuing to work on becoming healthier and fitter individuals.

In IDL we have been exploring food chains and writing captions. In Literacy here are some examples of our dictation practice with a partner.

What’s happening in Room 6!

This week Room 6 have been working hard to find out all about symmetry. We linked our Maths work to our Rainforest topic and made some stunning symmetrical butterflies for the canopy. We also created some Christmas Trees and tried our best to decorate them symmetrically.

On Tuesday we enjoyed an afternoon of Pantomime and as a class we are working hard to ensure that our names are regularly moving up on the Colour – o – meter.

Even though it is nearly the holidays the children we have continued  to practise our literacy skills daily. Today using whiteboards, the four children pictured used their initiative and started practising other spelling from around the classroom. Well done, Santa will be super impressed!

Room 6 Update!

Room 6 have had a very busy week! We have been learning all about money in Maths, recognising the different coins and being able to find the coins to pay for different amounts. We worked in pairs and small groups to help each other.

In IDL we are continuing to build our rainforest. We are adding animals and plants to each of the 4 layers. This week we labelled the layers and finished our atlas work on where rainforest are in the world. We used notes that we wrote to make our own factfiles, building interesting sentences and adding as many features of non fiction text as we could. The results are impressive!

The week will end with the school Talent Show, Christmas Fayre and Enterprise phew!

A reminder that all homework for the week should be handed in on Friday.

Pantomime Lunch Arrangements

Our trip to the pantomime is on Friday 27th November. We will be leaving school around 12noon and so will need to have an early lunch.

To make things as easy as possible pupils should order their lunch using the attached form – Panto Lunch Form.

Blue Band/ Snack-to-go lunches should also be ordered using the Snack-to-go form.

All other pupils who do not wish to order a school lunch should bring a packed lunch to school.  No crossing patrol is available at this time.

Many Thanks
