Multimedia Introduction

We started off looking at WYSIWYG, Text editors, Presentation and Authoring software.

There was a lot to get through in one period but we managed to cover the multimedia development cycle (ADITDEM) before getting started on some practical.

The practical looked at a piece of wireframe software called Moqups and Icon based multimedia package Kodu.

Remember for this unit you will want to use the Scholar website after class to go back over the lesson, or you could use it before class so you can ask better question.

Computer Software (Part 1)

Today we looked at operating systems, I made quite a comprehensive post on this last year. The key item from today was not the fact that I described BBC Master computers as the iPad of their day, it is the functions of a single user OS

  • interpreting users commands (User Interface)
  • file management
  • memory management
  • input/output management
  • resource allocation
  • managing processes (Kernel)

Create a mnemonic to help you remember this. I heard a great one the other day for the parts of a processor in Int 2. “C U, Ah Luv U, Right” (Control Unit, Arithmetic and Logic Unit, Registers). Who can come up with the best for OS functions don’t be shy to post your answers, but keep it clean.

NAB catchup day

It was a little frantic in class today as pupils looked for work for submission. Remember that file management is one of the jobs of the operating system.

I have created a shared presentation and emailed the whole class the link. Each pupil was then allocated 2 or 3 topics to prepare slides on. The whole task should be finished for Friday.
