Engineering the Future for Girls

Please read below to discover all about this exciting opportunity.

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde’s newly-launched 1 week Summer School for S3 girls (entering S4 in June):

Engineering the Future for Girls is being delivered in collaboration with BP and BAM Nuttall and is designed to engage girls in a wide range of engineering challenges that will inspire them to become the next generation of engineers. The summer school is fully-funded by BP and BAM Nuttall and all student costs, including travel, will be covered. Strathclyde will accept applications from girls with any range of subject choices at National 5.

The summer school is non-residential and therefore pupils should be able to make their way each day to the University of Strathclyde campus in the heart of Glasgow City Centre. Teachers are not required to accompany pupils during the week. For the pupils’ convenience, we have arranged for Mentors to accompany pupils from and to Queen Street train station, Glasgow Central train station and Buchanan Bus Station at the start and end of each day.

Pupils should apply at http://www.strath.ac.uk/engineering/outreach/engineeringthefutureforgirls ]http://www.strath.ac.uk/engineering/outreach/engineeringthefutureforgirls using the online application form. The deadline for applications is 10 March 2017. A confirmation email is sent upon receipt of application. The selection panel will meet in late March/early April to review the applications received and all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by 7 April 2017.

If you would like any further information on the Summer School then please email: engineeringthefutureforgirls@strath.ac.uk

North Lanarkshire Challenge

On Wednesday the S1 After School Group gave an informative interactive talk on the dangers of smoking and E-cigarettes. The pupils delivered their presentation with confidence and should be very proud of themselves.

The group have also completed the ‘Skill’ section which was on singing and music techniques and are currently working towards the ‘Service’ section.
Well done to group members- Paul McGuinness, Caitlin McInally, Callan Hay, Tommy Boylan, Emily Murray, Jack Moxen and Jack Meechan.

Celebrating Success

An analysis of the S1 report cards revealed twenty S1 pupils who had achieved the top ratings for homework, behavior and effort. The pupils were awarded with a Head Teacher’s Badge and made there own ‘Super Star’ posters which will be displayed in the red social area.

Daily Prayer

Thursday 2nd March 2017

Your Word reveals to us a simple truth,
that sin is defeated
and we can become
the people we were always meant to be,
by your grace through Jesus Christ.

Our Father…..

 School Prayer

Lord, I thank you for bringing me to another day.

May I live it completely for You,

Through you,

With You and in you. Amen

Daily Prayer

TUESDAY 28 FEBRUARY 2017

We pray and are thankful of the people around us.

avila

God of Love,
I thank You for the people in my life
who are easy to love.
I thank You for my family and friends
who understand my actions,
who support me in my decisions,
and whose presence can lift the burden of a thorny day.

Help me with those who are difficult to love.
When they come at me with criticism
and wild expectations,
when they ignore me
or try to bend me to their will,
let me recognize their flaws and their dangers.
But then let me remember your attitude toward them,
and lead me to see them
in the light of Your love.

As St. Teresa of Avila said:

“In all created things discern the providence and wisdom of God, and in all things give Him thanks.”

Our Father….

St Peter Damian

Bishop and Doctor of the Church

Born at Ravenna in the year 1007.  After completing his studies he taught for a short while but then gave it up and became a hermit at Fonte Avellana.  He was elected Prior of the community and strenuously promoted religious observance both there and in other parts of Italy.  In the difficult times in which he lived he helped the Roman Pontiffs by his writings and acted as legate to reform the Church.  He was created a Cardinal and Bishop of Ostia by Stephen IX.  On his death in the year 1072 he was immediately venerated as a saint.

We pray that by the example of St Peter Damian, we will prefer nothing to Christ and to make the service of the Church our chief concern so that we come to know the joy of your eternal kingdom.

 Blesseds Jacinta and Francisco Marto

 20february2017

Francisco Marto and his sister Jacinta Marto also known as Blessed Francisco Marto and Blessed Jacinta Marto, together with their cousin, Lúcia dos Santos were the children from Aljustrel near Fátima, Portugal, who said they witnessed three apparitions of an angel in 1916 and several apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1917. Their reported visions of Our Lady of Fátima proved politically controversial, and gave rise to a major centre of world Christian pilgrimage.

We pray that like Jacinta and Marco, we may have the courage to open our hearts to you and welcome you into our lives, we ask this through the intercession of your blessed Mother.

Our Father……..

Catholic Education Week

Pupils attending Mass this weekend should wear full school uniform to represent the school for Catholic Education week. Many pupils have volunteered to either read bidding prayers, give out leaflets or take part in the offertory. Could these pupils arrive a little early and contact the member of staff present. Thank you in advance.
