Calling all parents/guardians. We are organising a careers event for our S3 cohort and would love for you to get involved.
Come along to the @work event and discuss with our S3 pupils what it is like to be at work, roles, responsibilities, work ethic etc. So please phone and book a space or email Mr Conaghan at;
CConaghan@cardinalnewman.n-lanark.sch.uk
Please remember to drive slowly in and around the school grounds. We have a number of traffic calming measures in place to try to keep everyone concerned safe, please adhere to them. The roundabouts at the bottom of the drive can be very busy at times so be careful, the safety of our pupils, parents and those passing by is important to us.
Last night staff and pupils attended Mother Civic Centre for the Battle of The Bands event. It was a fantastic evening with talent on show from nine schools in North Lanarkshire. Our entry – Ultra Violet – did us proud gaining second place. Well done to our band members Stefanie Boyle, Rainne Downey, Nicole Smith, Jody Mullen, Dougie Steadman and Marje Batucan. A big thank you also to our music department and especially Mr McLaughlin for all his hard work.
Well done to everyone who ran the Glasgow Santa Dash yesterday in aid of Beatson Cancer Care. Six staff and twenty-one pupils met at 8.30 am and dedicated their Sunday to this amazing cause. The CNHS runners entertained the crowd on their way round by singing Christmas Carols and even took requests – confidence and commitment.
These events are open to all pupils so – why not get involved?
On Friday Dec 16 we will be having a Christmas Jumper Day in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice. All pupils wishing to participate in this worthwhile cause should bring a £1 contribution. Our St Andrew’s Ambassadors will collect the money period 1.
Pupil: £1 Family: £2 Staff: £3
Don’t want to wear a jumper?
Why not come in a Christmas themed item instead? (t-shirt, hat or wearing tinsel).
Anyone who does not wish to get involved must attend in full school uniform.
Today saw a visit from a company called ZOOLAB, who specialise in presenting to school children on many topics such as Habitats, Classification, Foodwebs, Adaptions, Biodiversity and the Rainforest. The photos here are of S3 pupils handling a variety of animals during one of the workshops.

Five S5 pupils took part in Young Christian Workers training last week at the Conforti Centre.
From then they have developed a group of around 12 pupils who are keen to express their faith within the school. The group will work towards a variety of actions across the year and are keen to start with an advent project.
Project One will support the North Lanarkshire Baby Bank and go alongside the work already completed by Mrs Callaghan and Mrs McGhee. The baby bank have a Christmas event called the ‘Handbag Appeal’ and this is where you come in!
The group are looking for donations of any handbags along with any items from the list below. The bags will be filled and sent to the baby bank to support the mothers of these young children.
Toothpaste Tooth brushes
Wipes Deodorant
Shampoo & conditioner Brushes/combs/bobbles
Lip gloss Nail polish
Moisturiser Sanitary Products
Soap Hand Sanitiser
Mouthwash Chocolate/Sweets
Hats/gloves/fluffy socks
If you could provide any baby items then the group would be happy to pass them on too.
I hope that you agree that this is a worthwhile cause and that the items we are collecting are things we all take for granted but most mums struggle to buy.
It would be great if you could help the group in any way, any donations can be dropped off in E4 (Mrs Murray’s room).
We hope to get these handbags to the charity before Friday 16th December.
Mr Crawford accompanied 15 of our senior pupils to the Mitchell Library today to an educational workshop. This event was coordinated by Education Scotland, The Devils’ Porridge Museum and the Govan Workspace. The theme was “How Industries Supported the War” which links in with the Higher History WW1 topic. Well done to all involved.
Yesterday Miss Sinclair lead a trip to the trenches. Pollock Park has reconstructed trenches and displays to show the conditions the soldiers lived and fought in during WW1. The teachers reported back that it was a fantastic learning experience and that as expected our pupils behaved impeccably. Well done to all those involved.
