Well done everyone.
We are now almost at 5/8 of a mile ( 52,800p).
To date we have gathered 47,410 pennies!
Back Packs
We are also still collecting items for our back pack project with any donations greatfully received.
We will be issuing an update on the number of back packs being sent out to Malawi in West Africa in the near future.
Well done to all the girls who successfully climbed Ben Nevis on Saturday raising money for St Andrew’s Hospice. If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet the link is on Twitter and included below.

Reflection:
In the gospel Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth, who is pregnant with John the Baptist, after the Annunciation. Prompted by the Holy Spirit, Mary’s humble ‘yes’ to God led to her great song of joy, the Magnificat. How can we approach our vocation with that same sense of trust and gladness?
Prayer: (The Magnificat)
My soul glorifies the Lord,
My spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.
He looks on his servant in her lowliness;
Henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me.
Holy his name!
His mercy is from age to age,
on those who fear him.
He puts forth his arm in strength
And scatters the proud hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones
And raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things,
Sends the rich away empty.

A reminder for all current S2 pupils that there will be a short meeting in Mr Crawford’s room G3, at 1pm on Tuesday to create a team of pupils to work with other European schools to create an online eBook showcasing Scotland’s War Memorials.
The team will travel around Scotland’s cities documenting the different war memorials and similar teams will document the same in France, Germany and Holland and hopefully all pupils will meet in France in June 2017.

Congratulations to First Year pupil, Keeley Higgins, for winning First Overall in the Zodiak Floor and Vault Competition which took place in Dunfermline Sports Centre.
Keeley came first place in the 12+ Intermediate competition. Keeley trains six hours per week in St Andrew’s High School, Coatbridge with her club – The Scottish Tumblers Gymnastics club. She has been a member for seven years.
Keeley is now looking forward to her next competition which takes place in Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth, in September.
We all wish her every success in the future.

Reflection
This Eastertide all of us are called to experience the great joy of the Resurrection. A great way to do that is to imagine yourself with Mary outside the tomb of Jesus. And to try to experience the marvellous joy that flooded her whole being at the moment that she recognized Jesus. Try to recognise the importance of Jesus in your own life.
Prayer
Almighty God, who through your only‑begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life‑giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Reflection
Think about the person that looks after you? Mum, Dad, Gran, Sister, etc. What do they do to make your life ha
ppy, healthy and peaceful that you don’t usually see them do it or even pay attention to them doing it? (making lunch, going to the shops, doing the laundry, smiling when you need encouragement, quizzing you on a spelling test). Now think about the things the Holy Spirit does for you to make your life peaceful, happy and healthy. Think today about how we can show God how thankful we are for the Holy Spirit and those who look after us.
Prayer
Jesus, our brother, thank you for loving us and calling us to follow you. Help us to listen to your Word and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit and those who love us. IN your name we pray. Amen

The GeoBus visited Cardinal Newman High School today. This is an educational outreach project developed and run by the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences
at the University of St Andrews.
The Geobus aims to support Earth Science teaching, inspire young learners and highlight career opportunities in Geology, Earth Sciences and STEM areas generally.
Our youngsters enjoyed learning about a variety of topics including earthquakes and volcanoes, they attempted to build structures which could withstand the power of a devastating earthquake. Thank you to Mrs Daly for organising this.
Reminder:
In the theatre tonight from 6.30pm there will be a presentation on the up coming S1 specialisation event. Mr 
Ross and Mrs McGhee will explain the process and answer any questions you may have. This will be followed by refreshments in our Snapdragon restaurant.
Sometimes when the weather changes and the sun shines we can struggle to concentrate on the task at hand. Help us to be ever mindful of the importance of giving our best efforts to every task set for us here in Cardinal Newman High School. Remind us that we are working hard to improve our chances for all our tomorrows.
