Whitelees Wind Farm

P5/6/7 visited the wind farm as part of their investigation of renewable energy.

By considering examples where energy is conserved, I can identify the energy source, how it is transferred and ways of reducing wasted energy.                                                                                               SCN 2-04a

Through exploring non- renewable energy sources, I can describe how they are used in Scotland today and express an informed view on the implications for their future use.                                                                                                                                                                                      SCN 2-04b

P1/2 Visit to Summerlee

As part of P1/2’s ‘When Gran was a girl’ theme, they visited the Summerlee Heritage Centre in Coatbridge.

I have explored how people lived in the past and have used imaginative play to show how their lives were different from my own and the people around me.                                                           SOC 0-04a

I can compare aspects of people’s daily lives in the past with my own by using historical evidence or the experience of recreating an historical setting.                                                                            SOC 1-04a

House Technology Challenge

The children were all involved in a House challenge during Science & Technology Week. P1 and P2 children used lego to build a futuristic car and demonstrated how they could make it move using a remote control. P3-7’s challenge was to create a model which would have a moving part, powered by a motor and a solar panel.

Visit to Faskine Farm

P1-4 visited a local farm to visit the chicks that they had hatched in school a few months ago. The have now grown into hens and are producing eggs of their own.  We enjoyed the Autumn walk and the chance to see the cattle. Our highlight of the visit was the opportunity  to sit in the big red tractor !

I can explore examples of food chains and show an appreciation of how animals and plants depend on each other for food.

It’s Good to Be Green !

On the last day of term we congratulated the children who had been consistently on green in term 1, never receiving an amber warning or red card. We are very proud of their efforts and hard work and they received a special certificate in recognition this.

We are extremely pleased with the effectiveness of the daily diaries in keeping the children on track. There has been a significant improvement in the overall behaviour within the school and we are delighted with the childrens’ willingness to strive to improve.

As you are already aware, the school offers weekly rewards in the form of our learning clubs. These are chosen by the children and offer a wide range of stimulating and enjoyable learning activities to motivate the children. However, in addition to this, we are delighted to announce that all children will be receiving the end of term, ‘Fantastic Five reward !

This end of term reward offers a longer term goal for all children to work towards. During term 1, the children were required to have 5 full green weeks to be a ‘Fantastic Five’.

We are delighted to announce that EVERY CHILD IN THE SCHOOL has been successful and will receive this reward!

This amazing achievement will be celebrated on the 25th October when all children will be enjoying a cinema afternoon. They will choose from  one of the three films on offer and will receive popcorn, a hotdog and a drink to enjoy too.
