Primary 3 – 7 Visit to Dynamic Earth.

On Wednesday, Primary 3/4 and Primary 5/6/7 went to Edinburgh on an educational visit to the Scottish Parliament and Dynamic Earth. Both classes have recently been learning about Space and were able to apply and extend their knowledge through a space workshop. Here the children were involved in designing space rovers for different planets and moons and they had the chance to present their designs to the rest of the group.

Whilst Primary 5/6/7 were at the Scottish Parliament, Primary 3/4 enjoyed exploring Dynamic Earth and were lucky enough to get covered in foam during their 4D video of the Arctic! Miss Ross certainly did not expect it!

Craig Mathieson Visit

Today we were very fortunate to have Scottish Polar Explorer and our House Ambassador Craig Mathieson in to visit our school. He taught us a lot about the animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctic and what it is like being a Polar Explorer. We also got the chance to try on some of the clothes that he took with him on his expeditions! We wish him good luck with his Polar Academy and will be keeping in touch with him via Twitter!

Blubber Experiment

During their Polar Explorers topic, Primary 1/2/3/4 have been researching the polar animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctic. Many of the children kept asking how these animals manage to stay warm in such freezing conditions, so today we conducted an experiment to see how ‘blubber’ helps keep the animals warm.

It was a messy job, but someone’s got to do it!
