Well we have travelled around the Isle of Arran gaining an ‘Island Visitor’ challenge in our 50 Things to do outdoors challenge booklet.  It has been a fabulous week and the sunshine has certainly helped.  We are now just getting into the swing of organising our own kit, lunch, boots etc and it is time to go home : ((  The gang did very well today at collecting their own rucksack, packing their own lunch and flask and finding their own hill-walking boots.  They also did a great job of helping to clean their boots at the end of the day and returning their kit to the stores.  Peter said ‘ Arran holiday finished … back again next year 2016, so surely that’s a good sign’.  The weather was glorious when we set off first to horse-riding and then to Lochranza for a picnic on the grass followed by a leisurely stroll along the sea.  We seen lots along the path including shells, wild flowers, jelly fish and some spagnum moss.  The afternoon ended with a visit to Brodick Castle for a tub of delicious arran ice-cream outside looking at the beautiful views.  Back to the centre for yet another yummy dinner and tonight it is party time with ‘Uptown funk’ on the request list.  We hope Andy plays it for us.  Thank you to all the staff and our work experience pupil Sophie for making this a fantastic trip.  We can’t wait till next year.

See you tomorrow.  I think it might be early nights for everyone!!!!

The sun shone again in Arran on us, how lucky are we!  As you can see from the photographs we have had yet another action packed fun day and I think one of the highlights was definetely the paddle in the burn running out to the sea.  There was lots of laugh and giggles and Ms Clark and Mrs Gribben enjoyed getting their feet wet too.  We have been on the go all day.  We wrote postcards this morning so hopefully they will arrive home before we do.  We then headed off to Kildonan in search of the seals.  The boys had great fun crawling along the grass being very quiet so as not to disturb the seals.  There were plenty to watch, some sunbathing and some swimming in the sea.  The walk along the beach was very peaceful.  Following this we headed to Machrie and sat on a pebbled beach to eat our packed lunch but it doesn’t end there.  We had a walk in a bluebell wood and then snack in Cafe thyme before heading back to the centre for a fabulous fish tea and chocolate cake.  Tonight we headed into lamlash, oops forgot the camera!  and had a lovely relaxing time interacting with our friends from Stanley Primary.  We are all worn out now so a quiet supper and off to bed.

Day 2 and Watersports Galore!

We are all exhausted after a non-stop day involving lots of water.  This morning we enjoyed a lovely breakfast of egg, sausage and bacon before making our packed lunch to get out onto the water.  We got kitted up in our sailing gear and took a boat trip on Inclusion to the Holy Isle.  Ryan, Peter and Katy all had a turn at driving the power boat.  The first group who included Ryan and Katy were lucky enough to spot porpoises on the way.  At Holy isle, we explored the lovely organic garden, smelling and tasting some wonderful herbs.  It turned a little cooler then so we found a sheltered spot to eat our lunch.

This afternoon, more kitting up this time to go out on the canoe.  Katy and Peter were ace paddlers and we travelled along the bay near to lamlash to see the seals.  The sun was shining and the water was calm. Peter told Mrs Gribben he liked the ‘kayaking’. Ryan enjoyed talking about the boats at every opportunity.  A fab day … more to come.

Day 1 Arran Outdoors Centre

Day 1 of our Arran expedition has been fabulous and what a lot we have packed in.  Elliot is our helper and it is looking like it is going to be a fun week. The weather has been beautiful so we were able to walk from Brodick all the way to Brodick Castle stopping to have our lunch al fresco.  We looked at the maps and tried our best to navigate our way and successfully did to the Bavarian Summerhouse.  After our long walk, we jumped back on the minibus and stopped at the local shop to buy some postcards to send home.  Just after tea, we did some work on our logbook and provided views about what we did today using the talking mat.  Everyone expressed that they liked going on the walk and following the trail at the castle.  Tea was yummy and soon polished off due to all of the fresh air building our appetite.  Tonight we went to the lifeboat station where we tried on the ‘kit’, don’t we just look the part!!!  Back home and we are all exhausted so a very quick supper, showers and in bed relaxing.  We will be back in touch with more news tomorrow.

There will be no presentation at these sessions as such, but an opportunity to view selected technology and learn how it can be used to support children in school and/or home.
