Boardmaker/visuals

Thanks to Linsey and Gordon who came along to our Boardmaker/visuals workshop today to make a range of visuals for use at home and in the community. One of the benefits of working together is that the same symbols and strategies are being used in both school and home.Today’s session allowed the opportunity for the adults to share their experiences and challenges and offer extra support and advice.

These sessions will be on-going and we would encourage you, if you feel that the use of visuals would help your situation, to pop in to the school any Tuesday to speak with us. Contact the school in advance to let us know if you are coming so we can prepare materials and resources.

Dear Parent / Carer,

BOARDMAKER / VISUALS WORKSHOP

A big thank you to all those who came along to our Communication Hub meeting this morning. Anne and I felt it was very productive and informative.

Following on from this we will be holding training workshops for parents/carers on the afternoon of Tuesday 28th November and all day on Tuesday 5th December. To this end, letters were sent out this afternoon. Please tick which time suits you best and return to the school as soon as possible so we can organise a rota of workable numbers. Even if you were unable to come along this morning you will be more than welcome at either of the workshops.

It would be useful if you could come armed with a list of the visuals you need or any questions/queries you may have about the use of visuals in your home setting.

Hopefully technology will behave itself so we can get straight down to work!

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call us on 01294 272481.

Yours sincerely,

Susan and Anne.

PECS Training

Hi Everyone

I attended and successfully completed a PECS training course on 16th/17th November in Glasgow, which was very informative and really enjoyable. I am really excited to return to the school and share my skills and knowledge with staff, parents and carers. We will arrange a PECS workshop for all interested parents/carers in due course.

Congratulations to our parents, Lynsey, Liz and Stacey who also attended and successfully completed the training course.

Hope to see you on Tuesday 21st November for our Visual Training Workshop.

Regards,

Anne

Launch Day

Hi,

Today was our first meeting and Presentation for our Communication Hub. Thank you to all parents/careers who came along,  We felt that it was a great success and was a really good opportunity to have an informal chat to see how we can work together to support our pupils and yourselves. It was also good to have parents sharing their experiences and success stories.

Following on from this meeting, and feedback from parents this afternoon, we have arranged a theme and a date for our next meeting. This will take the form of a workshop on the preparation and use of visuals for use in the home setting. The workshop will take place on Tuesday 21st November at a time to be arranged.

We look forward to welcoming you then. 😊

Communication Hub Workshops

Hello everyone and welcome to Haysholm Communication Hub page. Our aim is to connect with  parents and families to enable you to be actively involved in the development and use of effective communication in the family setting.

As you are aware we are in the process of getting our Communication Hub up and running. A lot of preparatory work has been going on behind the scenes and we hope to hold our introductory get-together soon after the October break.

Thank you to all who have completed and returned the paperwork we have sent out over the last few weeks. This is helping us to gauge the level of interest in the various methods of communication available and which workshops to prioritise. However, we are still waiting on a number of returns coming in relating to which methods of communication would be most useful to you. If you have not yet done so would you please indicate, either on the original slip or through the home diary, if you would be interested in attending any or all of the following workshops : Makaton, PECS, visuals, Objects of Reference, Intensive Interaction, AAC, Talking Mats.

Thank you for your input.
