Arran and Bute Class Wednesday

Good morning everyone.

Wednesday is normally our fitness suite day. You could follow some youtube videos for fun exercise- The Learning Station have lots of fun dances, Cosmic Yoga is fab and I’ll post a reminder of our Fit 15 videos below. You could also go for a walk or cycle outside.

We also visit the allotment on a Wednesday. How are your plants coming along? Have you done any other work in the garden? Planting, weeding, sweeping, litter picking, painting, using a lawnmower?

Have a good day

Diane 🙂

Arran and Bute Class Tuesday

Good morning everyone.

On a Tuesday we would normally visit the public library. Did you all manage to find a favourite book at home to look at? Last week’s blog has lots of ideas of what you could do with your book for anyone who wishes.

We also have a STEM afternoon on a Tuesday. If anyone has a VR headset at home, I can send links to some engaging apps.

I have included a Science activity to make lava lamps if anyone would like to give it a try:

Lava Lamp

Have a good day.

Arran and Bute Class Monday

Good morning, I hope you all had a nice weekend.

I thought that I would send the normal class activities everyday- the senior class timetable consists of being out in the community most of the time and focusses on skills for life and work so these could be adapted to use at home.

We would normally go shopping on a Monday morning-  pupils could help to make a shopping list, do an online shopping order, put shopping away.

We also have rebound therapy on a Monday afternoon if anyone has a trampoline at home and would like to practise their skills.

We choose ‘Singing Hands’ songs to watch and focus on copying two or three signs in the songs- I’ll share a few that we watch in class but there will be a whole range if you search on youtube.

Have a good day

Diane 🙂

Good morning Arran and Bute Class

Good morning everyone. It’s almost the weekend! 😀

Do you have favourite books at home?

We completed a literacy study on the Lion King in class. Is there a book you could use to look at in more depth? Some ideas:

Read the story every day

Watch it being read on youtube

Listen to songs related to the story

Draw/ paint/ create some pictures related to the story

Watch the film version if there is one

Make snacks/ cakes/ food related to the story

Make a scrap book with characters from the story

Play online games related to the story

These are suggestions of activities for anyone who would like them. If there are any specific questions or requests, remember you can e-mail me:

Have a good weekend!

Good morning Arran and Bute Class

We did a weekly ‘Personal Health’ activity for S4-S6 pupils National Qualifications. The S1-S3 pupils also enjoyed taking part. Pupils chose from a selection of personal health activities which the staff helped them with (foot spa, hair styling, manicure, applying make up). We also put on a relaxing video with music at this time.

This may be a fun activity to try at home- could be extended to include other activities (face masks, pedicures, relaxing bath, massage). The rest of the family could join in to make a ‘home spa.’

Have a good day

Good Morning Arran and Bute Class

Good morning everyone.

Since the weather forecast says that today has to be the nicest day this week, can you get out into the garden or on a nice walk (with plenty of sun cream)

I know some of you have trampolines and hot tubs. Remember you can upload photos of your fun garden activities (games, picnic, barbeque, pool, sunbathing, gardening, relaxing with your families) onto our twitter and facebook pages.

Have a lovely day and make the most of the weather!

Diane 🙂

P.E

Good morning everyone.

Our P.E this term should have been attending All Ability Cycling in the Ayrshire Athletics Arena where the pupils would choose from a variety of bikes to ride. Does anyone have a bike at home they could use for their daily exercise or a garden big enough to ride a bike in? What about an exercise bike?

I also saw this fabulous idea on line if anyone is able to/ would like to try?

Mom's Bike Hack for Her Kids Is So Genius We Wish We Thought of It ...

Great exercise and lots of fun!

Have a good day and make the most of the weather (while it lasts!)

Diane 🙂

Good Morning

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone is well and enjoying the beautiful weather!

Just a reminder that our topics for this term are Gardening and The World of Work.

Some gardening activities could include weeding, planting, raking, sweeping, painting furniture/ fence/ etc. My son painted some rocks to make a rainbow rockery.

I saw a lovely idea online of families having their own garden parties- decorating the garden with bunting, playing games, having a picnic/ barbeque, treasure hunts.

World of Work activities include everyday lifeskills and household tasks- helping with online shopping orders, unpacking shopping, using the hoover, washing dishes, setting the table, preparing meals and snacks, pouring drinks, etc.

As always, these are suggestions of things to do and are not compulsory. If anyone would like to ask for anything specific, please e-mail me:

Take care,

Diane 🙂

Happy World Autism Day

Many of the pupils who attend Haysholm are diagnosed with Autism.  The Coronavirus situation is very challenging due to the massive change in routine that it has caused.  If you can create some sense of routine and structure and home, this will help tremendously. Use of visuals will help your child know and understand what is expected of them.

There are some excellent resources on our website in the ‘For Parents’ section that you can use to help support understanding and predictability including the school closure kit.    If you would like a hard copy of this or any other visuals for home, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we can deliver.

Meantime, let’s celebrate the skills, talents, unique abilities that our pupils do have … every single one of them brings a smile to our faces.
