At Wellpark we encourage our children to explore woodworking and develop their skills in a safe space. All of our learning has been fully risk assessed to be as safe as possible.

Your child will take part in a programme learning how to use the tools in the correct way and be safe in the woodwork space, they will then under the supervision of a practitioner be allowed to tinker and create using different resources

 

Benefits of risky play and the use of tools

Risky play can be defined as play that provides opportunities for challenge, testing limits, exploring boundaries and learning about injury risk.

Woodworking is one example of risky play which has many benefits.

These include but are not limited to:
• Hand eye coordination and manual dexterity
• The development of fine/gross motor skills
• The development of problem solving and creative thinking skills
• Increased imagination and spatial awareness.
• Developing resilience, persistence and a sense of agency
• Developing independence skills and fostering a sense of curiosity
• Developing concentration
• An increased awareness of risk and how to manage personal safety
