Although it is important to identify where we are now, it is not enough to stop there. We need to reflect upon how we can develop the skills where we are less confident and how we can transfer the skills in which we are confident and competent.

Activity 2

Complete the audit below, using the information from the table above.

Self Confidence This skill will allow me to stand up in front of a class of children and feel in control of the group. I will be able to bring a positive atmosphere to the classroom as I will feel confident and happy teaching the lessons. In my last year of school I was given the opportunity to lead parts of lessons in a primary and secondary school environment. I felt confident and able to stand up and deliver lessons in English but also in the foreign language.
Team Work This skill will be vital when I have to work alongside colleagues but also in leading groups of children. I have always been able to work effectively in a group situation, conveying my own opinion but also listening to others and making sure that everyone has their say.
Make Presentations This is something that I will have to do daily, when I become a teacher, and so it will be  a skill that will be very useful to have. I have confidently delivered solo talks and presentations to peers, groups of adults and groups of children.
Be Creative This skill will help me bring a different aspect of the Curriculum into my teaching practice. I play several musical instruments and enjoy art and drama. I have performed in school concerts and shows throughout my time at primary and secondary school. I have also led drama style games to  groups of young children.

Work on own initiative

I will make a more conscious effort to set myself goals and try my best to meet them.

I will engage fully in lectures and workshops about building social networks so that I am able to become more familiar with how to do this and therefore, incorporate it into my teaching.

I will structure my notes in a way that I find easy to refer back to and will also try and get better at summarising -an area that I am currently not very strong in.

I will engage fully in lectures and workshops about ICT and computing skills so that I am able to become more familiar with how to do this and therefore, incorporate it into my teaching.

I will continue to seek out work I can do independently and try to find more opportunities for extra research and reading to further my knowledge of certain curricular areas.
